Desktop is blank. Computer keeps logging off.
I have a Dell Dimension 4600. The desktop icons and start bar disappeared. I could get them up by going into Task manager, but now if I try to do that it just keeps logging off. In fact if I just leave the blank desktop up for a few seconds, it says "saving your settings" and logs out. I can get into safe mode and tried last good configuration, but that didn't work. Any suggestions?
Thanks

a suggestion from a seasoned newbie.......
Here is what I would do......
Reformat my hard disk and reinstall your Windows XP etc etc.........
and then avoid like the plague all freebe junque programs.........
Motto: If you don't pay them for their work, it isn't worth it.......
I stick to the major league programs and have been trouble free since.....
reagards,
Walter on the learning curve.....

Here's what you can try to do, boot to safe mode with command promt. on the command prompt, you should be in c:\ then type the following commands one by one.
cd command
cd system32
cd restore
rstrui.exe or just rstrui
choose a date when the customer last worked. It will restore your system.

Er, how do I reformat my hard drive?
How can I reinstall Windows XP without getting into the user accounts?
Sorry, I'm not very computer literate, so any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi
If I go to safe mode with command prompt, it just takes me to the user accounts, so I can't type in anyting. Thanks anyway.
