Hi,
I hope someone can help me, I am not too computer literate, and am afraid I may have to reinstall windows XP, a task that I'd rather not have to do. First, the computer ran slow, then I lost the control panel. When I do a search, I can find it, but it will not open. I have all sorts of messages, such as "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictios in effect on thi PC. Please contact your system administrator.", "Cannot access the specified device path or file, you may not have the appropriate permission to access the file"When windows is opening I get a "Windows Shell cannot be found." If I can even access the internet I get shut down quickly, there are all kinds of pop-ups, including antivirus ads and warnings, things are not right. It freezes up constantly, I restart it often just to get something done. I have tried system restore to no avail. I do have antivirus software on it, have run scans, etc. It just keeps getting worse, as of yesterday, I cannot access Word perfect. Thank you, Shannon

It will take a couple of runs at this to completely remove the infection, so please be patient.
1. Please download the Killbox.
2) Rt Click->>Extract all->.Extract it to your Desktop
3) Double Click Killbox.exe to run it
4)Select " Delete on Reboot", and then select "All files".
5) Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting them and pressing Control-C:

C:\Program Files\Ultimate Cleaner\UltimateCleaner.exe
C:\Program Files\tmp89468.exe
C:\Program Files\IE Extensions\cj.v2.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolvs.exe
6) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose " Paste from Clipboard".
7) Click the red-and-white " Delete File" button. Click " Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt.
2. Reboot your PC
3. Go HERE and download WormFix
Save it to your Desktop. But do not run it yet.
4. Reboot into Safe Mode
This can be done by
Begin tapping the F8 key twice a second untill you reach another menu screen (black background with white menu choices)
Use your arrow keys and select Safe Mode and then Enter
5. Close all Internet Explorer Windows and Run WormFix
Open the WormFix Folder
Double Click WormFix.vbe to run the program
Then Select O.K. at the prompt
Allow the program to run (Your desktop will disappear, then re-appear. This is normal)
When it is finished it wil produce a log C:\WormFix.txt
Copy and paste the results of that log in your reply
6. Then reboot your PC into Normal Windows Mode->> Rerun Hijackthis and post a fresh Hiajckthis log.
As well as the C:\WormFix.txt log
Note: you may have to post the results in more than one reply

You did well
1. Copy and paste the following into NotePad (Not Wordpad)
sc delete Schedule
Click File ->> Save as ->>type in cmd.bat
Close Notepad
The cmd.bat file should now appear on your Desktop (if it saved properly it should appear as a blue box with a gear in the middle of it)
Double Click that file (It will appear that nothing has happened, but that's o.k.)
2. Rerun Hijackthis (scan only) and place checks beside the following entries

Go to Add or Remove programs (Click Start ->> Control Panel ->> Add or Remove programs)
And uninstall the following programs
Zango
Close Add or Remove Programs ->> Reboot your PC ->> Rerun Hijackthis and post a fresh Hijackthis log

Please download Combofix and save to your desktop:
Close any open browsers.
Double click on combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's finished it will produce a log.
Post the contents of the C:\ComboFix.txt into your next reply.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running.
That may cause the program to freeze/hang.

Hi,
Maybe I'm doing something wrong. I downloaded Combofix, closed everytghing, put it on my desktop, (red button with an X), clicked it. A green scan bar came up, then a box flashed on and off the screen for a second, and that was it. I tried it again, same result. I had to wait a few moments before the computer would let me get back on the internet, it took several tries.

Hmmm.
I have modified WormFix to correct you problem with accessing Control Panel. Delete the Copy of WormFix you have and download the newer version HERE.
Unzip it and run it as instructed before. See if you are able to access control panel, if so go ahead and uninstall the programs indicated in my previous post.
If you are still unable to access control panel then run Combofix in Safe Mode and post the C:\Combofix.txt log.

Thank you! It is so nice to have Control Panel back again. Whatever you did to WormFix worked. It's weird, but neither myself or my husband thinks we installed Zango or Ultimate Cleaner...the Zango toolbar just appeared.

Good, we are getting there.
It's weird, but neither myself or my husband thinks we installed Zango or Ultimate Cleaner...the Zango toolbar just appeared.
That's one of the things about infections, they load quite a bit of stuff without your knowledge or approval
1. Open Task Manager (Rt Click your clock in the lower icon tray ->> Task Manager)
Under the Processes Tab
Locate
Hilite and Select " End Process"
Close Taskmanager
2. Rerun Hijackthis (scan only) and place checks beside the following entries
O2 - BHO: cj helper - {F10587E9-0E47-4CBE-84AE-7DD20B8684BB} - C:\Program Files\IE Extensions\cj.v2.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iSecurity applet] rundll32.exe iSecurity.cpl,SecurityMonitor

Close all other open windows except Hijackthis and Select " Fix checked"
Close Hijackthis
3. Using Windows Explorer
Locate and Delete the following files
C:\Windows\System32\iSecurity.cpl
C:\Program Files\IE Extensions\cj.v2.dll
Locate and Delete the following folder
- C:\Program Files\iSecurity
Close Windows Explorer ->> Reboot your PC ->> Rerun Hijackthis and post a fresh Hijackthis log"The world is what you make of it"

As long as they are gone. Almost there.
Run an online virus scan called Kaspersky from HERE.
2. A new smaller window will pop up. Press on " Accept". After reading the contents.
3. Now Kaspersky will update the anti-virus database. Let it run.
4. Click on " Next"->>" Scan Settings", and make sure the database is set to " extended". And check both the scan options. Then click OK.
5. Then click on " My Computer". And the scan will start.
6. When the scan is complete Select "Save error report as"
Then in the file name just type in kaspersky
Under "save as type" select text .txt
Save it to your Desktop.
Copy and post the results of the Kaspersky Online scan

Hi,
Now I am really feeling stupid and worried....there are two "users" on this computer....same nasty things were happening on both of them, so I assumed that fixing this user, would also fix the other user. But when I just signed onto the other user I found that Control Panel is still missing. I hope I am not really trying your patience, but I am a little bit confused (lost?). Hope I explained this correctly.
