Help for HijackThis log file. Need to remove winfixer!

need help.  Would you mind to advise me which one I should fixed to remove the Winfixer 2005?

Hi CandyCandy...

We can definitely help you, but first you need to help us. You are quite behind on your Windows Updates and Patches!!

The first step in this process is to apply Service Pack 1a for Windows XP. Without this update, you're wide open to re-infection, and we're both just wasting our time.
Click here to get WinXP SP1a: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&DisplayLang=en

Apply the update, reboot, then go to Windows Update and install all the Critical Updates (Note: Except for WinXP SP2. You can upgrade to SP2 after you are clean)
Click here for Windows Update: http://www.windowsupdate.com/

After installing all the Patches and updates, reboot, then post a fresh Hijack This log.

Nice job... :)

I will go through your log and post back tomorrow as it has been a very long day and I need to get some shut eye. One more thing you can do for yourself and it is quite important...actually just as important as updating Windows. I cannot see any evidence of an Antivirus program listed in your HijackThis log. That is not good. Once again you're wide open to re-infection.

I can recommend a good "Free" AntiVirus program called AVG 7.0. I actually have it installed on my test PC. While you are waiting for my reply to your present log please download and install AVG 7.0.
- Download and install AVG 7.0 from http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/setup/avg70free_344a618.exe
- You can download a refence guide from (Note: You will need Adobe Reader to read it) http://free.grisoft.com/softw/70free/doc/avg_fre_ref_en_70_12.pdf

Lets' get to it...

Please print out or copy these instructions\tutorials to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) availble to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.
________________________________________________________________________________

Step 1.
==========
You have Spybot's TeaTimer turned on. While this is a great feature of Spybot's, we need to temporarily disable (not uninstall) the feature because it might stop our fix.
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure " Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck " Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer into "Normal Mode"
(Remember to re-enable this feature again after your PC is clean)

Step 2.
==========
Please download and install CCleaner from http://www.ccleaner.com/download123.asp
(Note: DO NOT run this program yet)

Step 3.
==========
Please download VundoFix.exe from http://www.atribune.org/downloads/VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
- Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files...This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
- After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode.

Step 4.
==========
- Reboot computer into " Safe Mode" Using the F8 method:
- As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Boot Menu appears
- Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item
(Note: For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site - http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml)

Step 5.
==========
We need to make sure all Hidden Files are showing so please:
* Open " My Computer" then click on " Tools" and from the drop down menu select " Folder Options".
* Select the " View" tab.
* Under the " Hidden files and folders" heading SELECT " Show hidden files and folders".
* UNCHECK the " Hide file extensions for known types option".
* UNCHECK the " Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option".
* Click " Yes" to confirm.
* Click " OK"

Step 6.
==========
- Open the VundoFix folder on your Desktop
- Double-click on KillVundo.bat to run it
- You will first be presented with a warning. It should look like this:

By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk
Press enter to continue....

- At this point press enter one time.
- Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff
and then press enter:

-At this point please type the following file path (Note: make sure to enter it exactly as below!):

- Press Enter to continue with the fix.
- Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum
staff then press enter:

- Press Enter to continue with the fix.
- The fix will run then HijackThis will open...

The above O6 entry should only be present if you set it on purpose or if you used Spybots Home Page and Option Lock down features in the Immunize section of Spybot.. Otherwise, fix with HJT.

- Click the " Fix checked" button...
- After you have fixed these items, close HijackThis
- Press Enter to exit the VundoFix program then manually reboot your computer.
- Once your machine reboots, reboot into " Normal Mode" and continue with the instructions below.

Step 7.
==========
We now need to cleanup all the Temp, Temorary Internet Files, Recycle Bin, etc...
- Start the CCleaner program
- Get into " Options" => Select " Advanced" => Deselect\uncheck " Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours"
- We are only going to work with the "Cleaner" section. (Note: Do not use the "Issues" section)
- click on the Run Cleaner button in the lower right-hand corner
- After complete close program
- Empty Recycle Bin

Step 8.
==========
Run Panda's online virus scan from http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm and perform a full system scan.
- Once you are on the Panda site click the " Scan your PC" button
- A new window will open...click the big " Check Now" button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
- Click on " Local Disks" to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
- Post Panda scan results in your next reply

Step 9.
==========
- Post a fresh new HijackTHis log
- Post the Vundofix.txt log
- Post the Panda ActiveScan results

Hi, Thanks for the info.  I got a problem in step 4. After I entered the safe mode and selected my username to logon, a dialogue box appears for about 0.1 second (I can read what's written), then the window just give me a blank page with a white arrange, the words "safe mode" at all 4 corners, and "a sentence on top of the window".    How can I logon to the safe mode?  Should I choose the one Safe Mode with a command prompt?

Thanks for the info. 

When I'm in the Normal mode and try to

* UNCHECK the "Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option".

There is a warning message telling me that my pc may become inoperable.  Is it safe for me to uncheck it?

Hi...

That is a Normal warning message when you "uncheck" that option. It is just warning you that hidden system files will now be visible and could be accidently deleted. If you are worried leave it checked. The reason being I am considering removing that line from that particular fix. I have no problems with you leaving it "Checked"
