Those hosts lines are to stop you getting help to remove this junk - they are the main support forums doing this type of removal. The malware writers know that the anti-malware forum's can remove this stuff with ease (or sometimes with ease) so they try to stop you getting our help. I once complained that the DellTalk forum was not on these lists to Tom Coyote (of www.tomcoyote.com), he said - don't talk to loud.
Good job you came here - its not on that list.

this was just some desktop dancer chick buddy thing that my roomate and I downloaded for kicks a few days ago. I thought we uninstalled it emmediately after our curiousity was entertained. Appearently uninstalling things doesnt clean all associated files. The actual file in question is a file that keeps the program updated with hot chicks and patches etc.. im assuming. The other files associated were just modules for the program.

I have no idea what this is but the file 'PicoZip' was empty and did  not contain PicoZipTray.exe.

Do you have any idea why these attacks of sabatoge of my computer is legal? I know that sometimes we install programs that state that addware is included. But I dont install free software of the kind from the net in windows. I do in linux but that is another matter that is not infested with these problems. I got all of this junk simply by surfing the internet and did not give any kind of agreement or approval to this control of my computer. To my knowledge, there arent firewalls or addware protection that completely makes a person unvulnerable to these things. Granted they help but I mostly find myself at the mercy of these forms of marketing and random attacks of destruction. My computer is a private piece of property owned by me. Any other piece of property that I own is protected by law. Why is my computer allowed access by anyone who can write simple scripts? Anyway, I have not found within myself any kind of justification for this behavior and because you work in this area, I thought maybe you might have an answer to my confusion. Oh, I'm sorry. Just didnt know. I got directed to this forum through Dell's website and so I just assumed. The efforts that have been made from the people that help have already been noted by me as something that deserves merit. These people appear to be really good at what they do. This new information has now made me view them in even higher esteem. Most of my time goes into my studies of programming personally and as a student, so this kind of help is extremely needed. You guys make my life alot easier. That's really magnificent. Thanks.

I did...and I'm another volunteer just like Chris (who lives in the UK and is asleep now...well..just about to wake up...he is 6 hours later than me in texas and it is 12:30 AM here and I will be to bed after this last post (maybe).

I didn't take offense at your comments and I don't work for Dell in any fashion.

Chris has you looking much better. Two things to do...one mandatory, one optional.

1. Mandatory...fix your HOSTS redirects:

Reboot to SAFE MODE and Show HIDDEN FILES and folders

Open Windows Explorer: type the word explorer at Start/Run box and click OK:

Drill on down and find:

C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ETC\HOSTS   file with no extension

Rename the file HOSTS to HOSTS.OLD   When you reboot a fresh clean HOSTS file will be created automatically by Windows. Later you can delete HOSTS.OLD

Reboot in normal mode Windows and run Disk Cleaner: type cleanmgr at Start/Run. Scan all hard drives and check all categories at the end and click OK.

Optional:

Get rid of Wild Tangent.. Chris and I hate it...in Control Panel find the applet icon for it and uninstall.

Browse a bit and try some sites you couldn't go to before, then post a fresh HJt log here.

Hmmm...odd...but the normal contents of the file are very short and simple. Here's what's in it as distributed by Microsoft:

If you select the text above, copy it to the clipboard, open Notepad, paste the text into a new document, and save the document as c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, it'll be as good as new.

oh and one other thing...when i unzipped the hjt log and copied and pasted onto notepad, it's actually in symbols and i can't read it, just wanted to let you know...i thought it might change over into the english alphabet when it was sent...
