HELP

I posted back in July of 2004 about actulice.  But we are having worse problems now.  We can't stop the pop-ups and every time we log on the computer there are various sites on our desktop that we did not put on there and there are several sites saved in our bookmarks that we did not add..  I attempted to restore my settings and took it back several months (October of 2004) but there are still way too many problems I can't figure out.   I ran hi-jack and am attaching the list below.   PLEASE HELP

Pam,

Your more than welcome! - Just glad I was here to help ... :)

-

When you tried deleting those files, did you enter the entire name, or just the file name that was in red? Your log looks good by the way! - Good job!

Reboot your system; If everything is running ok, let's do the final cleanup...

1.  Run " Disk Cleanup" and allow it to remove everything it finds.

2.  If you've downloaded MicroWorld AV ( MWAV), run it again - but don't scan, just click " Clear Log" and exit the program.

3.  Go to www.trendmicro.com and click " Free Online Scan", then " Scan now, it's free!". When it's downloaded, select all available drives, then check(tick) " Auto clean", then click " Scan".

4.  Run AdAware SE Personal and " perform a full system scan", then Spybot S&D, and " Check for Problems". Let them both remove the residual 'problems' left that HiJackThis couldn't fix.

5.  Disable, then re-enable system restore; with a reboot in-between. Then immediately create a new system point manually.

If your having any more problems, post back.

Hey Mike,
when I ran mwave the virus log brought up these:

File C:\WINDOWS\System32\doolsav.dat infected by "not-a-virus:AdWare.ToolBar.EliteBar.z" Virus. Action Taken: No Action Taken.

File C:\WINDOWS\System32\instsrv.exe tagged as not-a-virus:RiskWare.Tool.ServiceRunner.f. No Action Taken.

File C:\WINDOWS\System32\netut80ex.vxd infected by "not-a-virus:AdWare.ToolBar.Exact" Virus. Action Taken: No Action Taken.

Do I need to worry about these?

Pam,

How's everything running so far?

Let's remove these two:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\doolsav.dat
C:\WINDOWS\System32\netut80ex.vxd

I don't believe we need to worry about the other one.

things are going slow.... sorry I had to step out and shovel snow (UGH).  Well adaware found 505 critical problems and I fixed those and then Search and Destroy found 5 erros but stopped and stopped it with Winpup(?).  Also when I rebooted I got this error message "eScan AntiVirus toolkit utility Internal Error!!! This could be b/c of incorrect system date setting or missing *.AVC/*.SET signature file or corrupt *.AVC/*.SET files.  Please send MWAV.log file to support@ mwti.net"

This computer fixing is making me tired!!!!  :smileywink:

Mike,

I hear ya.. I can't wait for Spring but then of course (and I don't know about you) but we will have to watch out for tornado's.  The system is running much better.  I am not noticing the problems like we were having before I posted last week!!!

And yes that error message from Mwav.exe showed up after booting up.

Well hopefully we aren't working you too hard.... you know what they say about all work and no play HAHA       :smileyvery-happy:

Pam,

I think all of our snow days are over with ... we're just so many weeks away from 'official spring'!

Good! It sounds like your making really good progress. How's the system running so far? Is that error from MWAV.exe starting at bootup?

I know just what you mean - yesterday was one of the first days i'd had enough free time to take a quick nap on the couch. That really helped!
