hijacked? my single non networed computer.
I am unable to download anything that comes from a site. I get the download and it appears to be from the internet, until it is time to install then I get an IE block because the application has"come from another computer" --I have a Dell dimension. I have had it a year and it has worked properly about 1 day. Dell customer service fooled around until they said my three month warranty was up and promptly cut me loose. Even with this forum, IE tells me wireless file transfer-I use dial-up, I attempted to download Real Player, but as I was online the settings changed to DSL connection-I have ONLY dial-up, My isp also read my connection as DSL and even now I can only connect to the net using IE after clicking their icon, advised connected, then "this page will not display" so I click on the IE button and get to my home page, Windows Media player has never worked constantly reverts to wmp9, can never set stations or view any embedded video.
I have anti-virus program that will not ever update. I have done system restores, clean, repair so many times I have lost count- a full years' worth. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Oh, yes and my email is funny too, dialup connection has another password and phone # embedded. YIKES-I am a patient woman, but REALLY -this is toooooooooooo much! Thanks in advance, a hammer to the puter?

Save it in a convenient permanent folder such as C:\\HJT\\, double click HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log, Ctrl-A to Select All, and copy its contents AT THE LINK BELOW

Please do not be tempted to "fix" on your own. Hijackthis is a very powerful tool, if used incorrectly can cause system problems

The log file I'm looking for it automatically created in notepad. When Hijackthis creates the logfile it does so by opening notepad. As far as the Ctrl A; when notepad opens with the logfile in it, just mouse click anywhere in the open notepad window, then hit Ctrl and A at the same time, the text background will turn blue. Then Rt click and select copy, just like you would on most documents and post it in your reply.
And yes I'm in Alabama, a little farther north than Montgomery.

yes, I tried the right click and copy, but nothing happened, mouse wouldn't work. It is so weird, it works on other things. I'll keep trying and see if I can send the scan results, from what I can tell there are many duplicate programs and applications that are set to auto start with windows. Thank you.

That's O.K. At least you were able to download and run HJT. We may need to try to do some preliminary cleaning before we can get a look at the log.
Lets try this
Go here and download Vcleaner from grisoft and save it to your desktop
Double click Vcleaner and run the tool, as it runs a DOS window will open. After the tool is finished
Then see if you can re-run HJT and post a log, if not please reply and we will try some manual fixes.
