HijackThis--help with accessing website

I cannot access www.amazon.com via IE

when i try to put www.amazon.com into IE i get routed a Google search page

http://www.google.com/search?q=www.amazon.com

and then i get "page cannot be displayed"

as recommended, I checked my HOSTS file, and it turned out ok, so I ran HighjackThis HJT and here are the results.  Please advise.

thank you.

Are you still using Road Runner as an ISP?

Check that your DNS server knows the correct address:
Start, Run, cmd, OK to bring up a black cmd screen.

Type:  nslookup www.amazon.com

Do you get a result like this?
Server:  nycmny-dns-cac-01.rdc-nyc.rr.com <==This is the name of the DNS Server
Address:  24.29.99.14 <==This is the address of the DNS Server
Name:    www.amazon.com
Address:  207.171.175.29  <==This is the IP address for www.amazon.com

If so then the DNS server is working and the problem is local.  You can try running Internet Explorer and see if when you tell it to go to http://207.171.175.29 if it will go to amazon.

If you do not get the same result then what DNS server did you get instead?  What was its IP address?  What IP address did it give you.
If you have since switched to a router and you are getting the wrong address then try toggling power off and on on the router.  Also check / Fix Checked this line in HijackThis:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{5499956A-14DC-409E-A9D5-48BBF7923383}: NameServer = 24.29.99.14,24.29.99.15

It's possible that amazon has been put into the restricted zone:

Get DelDomain.inf from:

http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/restricted.htm  and then right click on it and Install.

This will clear your restricted and trusted zones of all entries.

Does it work now?  I know you said you had checked your hosts file but just in case you can:

download the Hoster from:
Unpack to your desktop and run it.  If you have green print at the top then just press Restore Original Hosts then OK.
IF you have red print then press make Hosts Writeable first.  This cleans out your hosts file and sets it back to the default.

i did the first step and got:

Server:  dns-server.rdc-nyc.rr.com

Address:  24.29.103.10

Non-authoritative answer:

Name:  www.amazon.com

Address:  207.171.166.102

Continue on.  This is a valid IP address for amazon too.  I put it in my IE and it went straight to amazon.com.  They probably have a large number of them in the same range and use the DNS entries to spread the traffic around.

I can't believe it, it worked!  Restoring Original Hosts did it.  The other solutions I kept getting the same problem.

Thank you very much for all of your help!
