Your HijackThis.exe is not in the best place running from the Desktop. Please follow these instructions to move it to a permanent file on your C:\ drive:
Important: Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
Move HijackThis.exe into this folder. When you run HijackThis from this folder and have it "Fixed checked" it will create a backup file of modifications to use if restore is necessary.
Then please follow the directions at the following link, when you have finished, please post a fresh HijackThis log keeping it in this same thread.
http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html
I need to make you aware of this information in the event you had not seen it.
http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=si_virus&message.id=15651
I can see problems in your log, and if you will be patient, one of our experts will be along as soon as possible to help you clean it up. Thanks. pskelley

Hi,
I moved HijackThis to the C drive as you suggested. I downloaded and ran SpyBot and Adware. And I created a new HJT log which is pasted below. Seems like things may have now spread to the laptop that's also on our home network. Is that possible? Thanks for your help with this.

Cool...Spybot fixed your Winsock hijacking (the O10 entries in first log). That's a great start. We don't fix those lines in Hijackthis anyway...normally if Spybot doesn't fix it we use a tool: My example shows the very same one you had:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/lspfixinstructions.htm
Good job on moving your Hijackthis file...pskelley is a good guy to have around and working hard on becoming an expert on Hijackthis logs...give him two more months and he'll be whipping the dog out of these pests.
Now for the rest:
Run Hijackthis, scan and check the box left of these numbered line items:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://allaboutsearching.com/passthrough/index.html?http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd={SUB_PRD}&clcid={SUB_CLSID}&pver={SUB_PVER}&ar=home
O3 - Toolbar: 4 Bore Default - {6B57E090-61B9-6E21-CB15-85F7506D0A03} - C:\PROGRA~1\MOREHE~1\road four.dll (file missing)
O4 - Global Startup: Digital Line Detect.lnk = ?
With no other windows open click on fix checked button in Hijackthis.
Exit Hijackthis.
Reboot to SAFE MODE and Show HIDDEN FILES and folders (VERY IMPORTANT!)
FAQ 8 and 9 on this page: http://www.russelltexas.com/malware/faqhijackthis.htm
Open Windows Explorer: type the word explorer at Start/Run box and click OK:
Drill on down and delete the following folder:
C:\Program Files\MOREHE~1 will be longer foldername
Exit Explorer and empty the Recycle Bin immediately.
Reboot in normal mode Windows and run Disk Cleanup: type cleanmgr at Start/Run. Scan all hard drives and check all categories at the end and click OK.
If you have any problems with Disk Cleanup completing...XP users can fix it here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;812248
Or try this fix: http://www2.whidbey.net/djdenham/DeleteOldFiles.htm
Reboot and browse a bit and post a new Hijackthis log.

Hi,
Thanks for your help. I did everything you suggested. I still keep getting pop-ups continuously, even when I'm not online - in fact it just automatically launches explorer whenever it wants to. Also, the 'allaboutsearching' just came back, hijacking my home page to their homepage. That had been deleted but now it's back. I deleted it again using HJT but I have no confidence that it will stay away. Over the weekend someone here downloaded Stopzilla to get rid of pop-ups but of course that's not working well either. Every few seconds the computer seems to start to show a pop-up and then most times just goes back to what it was doing, but sometimes the pop-ups come through. I'm not sure what else to try.
Anyway, here's the latest HJT log. Any ideas?? (And thanks again for looking at this).
-Robin - here's the log:

OK...we will get tougher..
Reboot to Safe Mode and run Hijackthis there.
Run Hijackthis, scan and check the box left of these numbered line items:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {0BA60C31-FE2E-AA55-8A7F-537524030EAA} - C:\PROGRA~1\MOREHE~1\road four.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {63B78BC1-A711-4D46-AD2F-C581AC420D41} - (no file)
With no other windows open click on fix checked button in Hijackthis.
Exit Hijackthis.
Open Windows Explorer and delete this folder: (it may not be present)
C:\Program Files\MOREHE~1
Exit Explorer and immediately empty the Recycle Bin.
Run Adaware, get latest updates for today. Use the custom scan option. Scan and fix all items detected.
After fixing with Adaware, run Disk Cleanup: type cleanmgr at Start/Run. Click OK at the end after checking all category boxes.
Reboot and browse a bit, exit IE 6 and post a new Hijackthis log.
Special comments: It is possible you have a yet-as-unsurfaced exploit...we will keep an eye out. I also don't like Stopzilla...for a better popup blocker try www.panicware.com or the GoogleToolbar. http://toolbar.google.com/
All the best,

Well hello again,
I did everything you said and so we shall see what happens. While I was scanning with AdAware and with SpyBlaster Explorer kept trying to open itself and go to sites on its own. I closed them each time they opened, and 1 or 2 times they closed themselves. After doing what you suggested I again ran SpyBot and I'm still getting those DSO Exploit 5 entries, plus this time I got: Virtual Bouncer, eZulaHotText, and HuntBar - all of which I 'fixed' again. When I look in SpyBlaster's tools it still shows the homepage as 'allaboutsearching' but that isn't (of course) what I want or what I chose. I changed it and it came back that way again after re-booting.
So, I've been "exploring" for a little while and it's does seem better than before - but there's still something going on creating pop-ups I don't want and even launching explorer when I don't do so myself.
Here's the lastest HiJacker Log which I just ran after doing all these things this morning.
THANKS!!

>I'm still getting those DSO Exploit 5 entries, (Spybot)
Well-known bug (to us at least) of the new 1.3 version.
Your log looks clean, but your comments tells me that something is still wreaking havoc and unseen.
Let's try an Adaware log. Scan and then view log. Hit Control-A and Control-C keys in log window. Paste into a reply here.

Hi there, When I post the Ad-Aware log it tells me I can't submit the reply because the message body is too long. I'm going to try to e-mail it to you separately if that's okay. Thanks, Robin

Yes...the limit on length is a bummer. Email is fine.
