1. Click "
Config..."
2. Click "
Misc Tools"
3. Click "
Open Process manager"
Next, while holding down the
CTRL key, locate (
if present) and click on (
highlight) each of the following:
C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe
Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click "
Kill process". Now, click "
Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.
Before we begin, let's move
HiJackThis to it's own folder; like
c:\HJT. When we're done '
cleaning' off your system, we're going to '
flush' the temporary folders which, with
HiJackThisin it's current location, we'll lose both the program and the backups it creates. These backups are important in case we need to restore any 'fixed' entry(s) later.
Also move the "
Backups" folder, for
HiJackThis, if present.
Run
HiJackThis and click "
Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
O4 - Startup: LimeWire On Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe O4 - Global Startup: Digital Line Detect.lnk = ?
Now, with all windows closed except
HiJackThis, click "
Fix checked".
Locate and
delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:
folders... C:\Program Files\LimeWire
Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're '
in use', try deleting them from "
Safe Mode".
Reboot and postback a new log, and let me know how everything goes.
Thanks for your help. Things still aren't right. After I "fix checked" I received an error, (can't remember what it was), but it said something like I would receive a log. I had other windows open, that might be why. Furthermore, when I logged off. It took a while and I had to end task of a program called "Shellicon hidden Window." The computer then logged off and I was able to login by clicking on my name. My background from the internet came up and then then vanished when my icons came up, I still have a white background. I then click on the shortcut icon of MusicMatch, the music match screen came up, but no program started. I then clicked on internet explorer and nothing came up. Next, I logged off again and it took forever. I had to end task on MfAgent (something like that), and I think 3 more programs which appeared to be McAfee Virus programs. After logging off I looged in again and this time the background from the internet came up and stayed w/o icons or my active desktop. I then hit Con Alt Delete and saw that processes were running. I logged of again this time by holding in my power button, restarted and the active desktop came up again w/ the white background like I stated above. This time I went right into internet exporer ran HJT and here I am. Below is the latest report. Thanx again.

Below is the Spyax logfile which now is "smitRem." There now looks to be others including SpyAx that run. I'm still having problems. A blue background came up; however, it went away being replaced w/ the white background, again. Also, when I ran the smitRem file it didn't retart my CPU smoothly. I had to end task on "ShellIconHiddenWindow" again. When the "shutting down windows" screen apprears, I had to actually hold the power button to get my computer to reboot. Below is the SmitRem log file (the file that ran SpyAx). Below this log file, as requested I've included a new HJT log file. Thanx again.

Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)
Shutdown and Restart and Boot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you see the PC maker's logo. Keep tapping until it tells you it is going to Safe Mode or you see the Safe Mode menu. Select the top option. Log in as your usual login or you won't find the programs you put on the desktop and some of the entries we want to remove will not appear in HijackTHis.
Run HijackThis and just do a Scan only. Check then Fix Checked the following:
Select Options then Advanced and uncheck the box in front of:
Only Delete file in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours.
Now select Cleaner
Under Cleaner Settings, Windows
uncheck everything on the first page
except:
under Internet Explorer
- Temporary Internet Files
under System
- Empty Recycle Bin
- Temporary Files
Under Cleaner Settings, Applications uncheck everything
except:
Under Internet
- Sun Java
Run Cleaner.
This should clean out all of the temp files including those of your java program (where recently we are finding a lot of garbage. You really should be running the latest version of java and uninstall all old versions). The reason I have you uncheck most of the options is that I have had problems with it deleting too much so I want to limit it to things where I think malware might be hiding.
Run killbox. Open Options and check Remove Directories
Where it says Full Path of File to Delete you need to type:
C:\Program Files\AlfaCleaner
Then check the Delete on Reboot box then the red button.
It will say: File Will Be Removed On Reboot, Do you want to reboot Now.
Tell it YES. This should remove the whole directory that came with the infection.
When it reboots, run the smitrem program again. You can cancel the cleanup program that runs at the end.

This is Ron. You have one of the newer variations. This one's called alfacleaner becasue of this line:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AlfaCleaner] C:\Program Files\AlfaCleaner\AlfaCleaner.exe
Get the latest version of ccleaner from:
from http://www.ccleaner.com.
(the actual download is at: http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/
click on on Download Latest Version)
Install it. Don't let it clean anything yet.
Download the killbox:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php
Unzip it to your desktop but don't run it.
Shutdown and Restart and Boot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you see the PC
maker's logo.
Keep tapping until it tells you it is going to Safe Mode or you see the Safe
Mode menu. Select the top option. Log in as your usual login or you won't find the programs you put on the desktop
and some of the entries we want to remove will not appear in HijackTHis.
Run HijackThis and just do a Scan only. Check then Fix Checked the following:
Select Options then Advanced and uncheck the box in front of:
Only Delete file in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours.
Now select Cleaner
uncheck everything on the first page
except:
under Internet Explorer
- Temporary Internet Files
under System
- Empty Recycle Bin
- Temporary Files
Under Cleaner Settings, Applications uncheck everything
except:
Under Internet
- Sun Java
Run Cleaner.
This should clean out all of the temp files including those of your java program (where recently we are finding a lot of garbage. You really should be running the latest version of java and uninstall all old versions). The reason I have you uncheck most of the options is that I have had problems with it deleting too much so I want to limit it to things where I think malware might be hiding.
Where it says Full Path of File to Delete you need to type:
It will say: File Will Be Removed On Reboot, Do you want to reboot Now.
Tell it YES. This should remove the whole directory that came with the infection.
