HJT - LOG Help removing virus please
Here is the log on from HJT. Have done all steps through norton removal for trojan.alemod / hijack virus. Still have pop-ups from Norton IS that state we have the virus but it can not be removed. System is slow, will not run programs after the pop-up window starts, will not shut down, we constantly have to turn off. Relatively computer literate and follow directions well, don't think we did anything wrong - maybe you can help. Thanks very much - FRUSTRATED. When we try to shut down, ccApp will not shut down, also, on reboot, NVMCTRAY.DLL is not found. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm Bod and here to help you with your Hijack This log.
Please only use this topic for your replies on this problem. Do not start another thread.
The fixes we will use are specific to your problems and should only be used for this problem on this computer.
These things need to be properly researched and a complete fix for many malware problems can take some time and be spread over a number of posts, so please be patient and try to see it through to the end.
I am currently looking over your log and as I am an undergraduate at Malware Removal University, everything that I post to you must be checked by an expert. There may therefore be a slight delay between posts. I will post back as soon as I can.
Thanks,
Bod

I've had a look through your log and I now have some instructions for you to follow.
Before you start, please read through these instructions and make sure that you understand them.
If you are not sure about anything, post a reply in this thread with your questions.
Please follow and carry out all the steps in the instructions in the order I've listed them.
Please do not try any other "fixes" you may have found on the internet while we are sorting this problem out, it's important that we work through the fix in a systematic manner.
Step 1
Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
Allow the list to populate, then click on "Remove" for Viewpoint if present in the list.
Reboot.
Step 2
Run Hijack This, don't have any other programs open, and click " Scan".
In the scan results, click on the check box for all of the following lines that are present.
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {36B0A261-EA24-6BE5-6027-7FC4035DD69B} - (no file)
O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} -
C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links -
{c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O16 - DPF: {10000000-1000-0000-1000-000000000000} - file://C:\Program
Files\Internet Explorer\a.exe
Click on " Fix checked".
Step 3
Re-boot in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during Boot-up and choosing Safe Mode from the boot options list.
Click My Computer > Tools > View, then put a tick in the " Display the contents of system folders" and " Show hidden files and folders" check boxes. Uncheck
the " Hide protected operating system files (recommended)" option.
Click " Yes" to confirm.
Click " OK".
Navigate to the following folders and files and delete each of them. Some may not be present.
Folders (delete with all contents)
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\
Files
C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\a.exe
Reboot as normal.
Step 4
Run Hijack This, " Scan" and post the log as a reply to this thread and let me know how the pc is working. I'll check it through, and get back to you.
Thanks,
Bod

Thanks for the help to this point bod. Just got time to do the fix's you recommended on the previous message. Computer seems to be running better yet still have a couple issues. When I do a system scan with NIS, it stops on this file C:\windows\system32\input.dll and will not continue. I also get the message at start up about NVMCTTRAY.DLL missing. Here is the log as it stands now. Don't know if this is still under this realm or not, but if we could clear these up it would be great. Oh, when I do a full system scan, NIS still detects 1 virus threat but can't complete (getting stuck on the file above), yet when I do a quick scan, it detects nothing. Thanks again for the help to this point.

Hi again,
I've had a look through your Hijack This log and it's clean.
C:\windows\system32\input.dll is a legit windows file, but it is also a file commonly associated with "Searching All" adware, so we will check for that.
A file "NVMCTRAY.DLL" is one of your autostart entries (O4 section of Hijack This log), though note the different spelling from NVMCTTRAY.DLL you mentioned in your introduction. Is it a typo? NVMCTRAY.DLL is part of the software associated with an Nvidia graphics card. We'll see at the end of all of this, but you may need to re-install your Nvidia.
Please follow these instructions.
Again, before you start, please read through these instructions and make sure that you understand them.
If you are not sure about anything, post a reply in this thread with your questions.
Please follow and carry out all the steps in the instructions in the order I've listed them.
Step 1
Click Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
Allow the list to populate, then click on "Remove" for "Searching All" if it appears in the list.
Reboot.
Step 2
Download, install, and update the free version of Ewido Anti Malware from http://www.ewido.net/en/download/.
When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
When you run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click "OK". From the main Ewido screen, click on "update" in the left menu, then click "Start update".
After the update finishes, the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"
Click Scanner > Complete System Scan, and choose "Remove" then click "OK" for everything found. Beware of false positives, so check each item found before choosing to remove.
At the end of the scan, click "Save Report".
Please copy this log into your next post.
Thanks,
Bod
