Be sure to look this solution over before you begin. There are a some item(s) i'm not familar with. If you recognze any, then just omit them from this fix.

Before we begin, let's move HiJackThis to it's own folder; like c:\HJT. When we're done ' cleaning' off your system, we're going to ' flush' the temporary folders which, with HiJackThis in it's current location, we'll lose both the program and the backups it creates. These backups are important in case we need to restore any 'fixed' entry(s) later.

Also move the " Backups" folder, for HiJackThis, if present.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

Locate and delete the following item(s), if present. Make sure your able to view system and hidden files/ folders:

Search for...
system.exe

...using " Start | Search...".

Note that some of these file(s) may or may not be present. If present, and cannot be deleted because they're ' in use', try deleting them from " Safe Mode".

I've deleted the registries listed in your post through HJT, except for 3 because my log didn't show the complete name of the registries

However, I've found that although I didn't delete these entries, the problems that I'd encountered earlier have been fixed. Should I still delete these registries anyway or should I just leave it as it is?

Also, I've checked for the system.exe and D:\WINDOWS\webdir.dll but could not find them. I know you wrote in your post that I might or might not find them, but I was just wondering if that is still the case if I didn't delete the entries above.

We'll need to unload Spybot's Teatimer before we begin. To do this, right-click on the icon in the quick launch toolbar at the bottom on the screen, then select " Exit".

Run HiJackThis then:

1. Click " Config..."
2. Click " Misc Tools"
3. Click " Open Process manager"

Next, while holding down the CTRL key, locate ( if present) and click on ( highlight) each of the following:

D:\Program Files\Telstra\Cable Login\bpcable.exe

Now double-check and make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click " Kill process". Now, click " Refresh", check again, and repeat this step if any remain.

and my Telstra program has been successfully deleted, however, since Tesltra is my internet service provider, I was expecting my internet to not work anymore, however it still does. Is that suppose to happen?

Lets try that same fix but this time do it in Safe Mode.
I didn't realize that entry was related to your cable connection.
Those other entries should go in Safe Mode.

Tapping the F8 key while booting up will get you into Safe Mode

Hi Steve,

I tried deleting those entries in Safe Mode, but they still appeared in HJT afterwards. So I uninstalled Spybot, and now those entries have been deleted through HJT.

Just to check, I installed Spybot again afterwards and those entries didn't reappear, so I think those entries have been permanently removed now.

If you didn't disable Tea Timer that could have been the cause.

This is my normal post for when you are clean - which you now are - or seem to be. Please advise of any problems you still have :-

Here are some last minute instructions.

• Download and run CleanUp and clean up all the junk we have left.
  
  
• Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.
• You can find instructions on how to enable and re enable system restore here:

  Windows XP System Restore Guide
  re-enable system restore with instructions from tutorial above
  
  
• Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
• From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
• Click once on the Security tab
• Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.

  Use an Anti Virus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:

• Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

• Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

• Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

• Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
• This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

• Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

• Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:

• Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
• Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.
