I'm losing my mind! Please help.
Okay, here I go again. I've registered here on the Dell Community Forum the other day, and today when I came on they tell me there is no such person registered under that name, so I've re-registered under a new name all over again. I hope it works this time. I'm going crazy trying to figure out what is wrong with my very new computer, and I think I've discovered that there is Spyware attacking me. I went on a music share website, paid my annual fee (because I wanted to obtain music legally), and this I guess, was the result of it all. Now I have tons of popups that are driving me to the nuthouse, and my system is running very slowly and doing all sorts of quirky things that I don't think it should be doing. Last night I downloaded HijackThis and I obtained a log. I hope I did it right, because I really am an amateur on all of this. I will attempt to copy and paste my log. I will be VERY thankful and extremely appreciative of you who help me.

Download and run Spybot S&D and Adaware: http://www.lavasoft.de
Use Spybot first.
Spybot Search & Destroy:
New version 1.3 RC4:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html
Chris has posted an excellent tutorial by dgosling on how to run Spybot S&D and also how to enable customized deep scanning functions for Adaware. Once you set these options they will be retained for future scans by Adaware.
Follow the directions in this detailed guide for Spybot and Adaware...go slow on the directions for the custom setup of Adaware:
http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/spybot-adaware.html
I also like to run Windows Disk Cleanup after cleaning with those two tools. Make sure you reboot if any reboot cleanup functions of Spybot and Adaware are advised by these tools (this may happen at the end of their cleanup).
Reboot and click on Start/Run/ type: cleanmgr
I check all the selected items to be deleted here.
You also have an entry in your LSP that needs to be fixed. Use the utility below:
http://www.aluriasoftware.com/tools/LSPFix.zip
Open the program, select I know what I'm doing and move all of these entries to remove:
inetadpt.dll
Reboot and post a new Hijackthis log (stay in this thread)...
The references below are HJT bad entries for your log and I want to compare them with your new log after you run Spybot, Adaware, and LSP. We'll see what is left after they get through. They will get a lot...we will do the rest.

Sorry Yellowhammer...didn't see your post before I replied...I'm in the midst of selling my house and moving to another house 45 miles away this week and it's been hectic. I posted and then left to work on packing...didn't see YH responded because I was loading my van. So now I see the confusion the double first response may have caused as I have been the primary DellTalk responder for the past few weeks.
Original poster: follow Yellowhammer's directions...we may use slightly different methods, but the end result is intended to get your machine clean. We don't "step" over another expert's advice unless we see a mistake. Coordinating who is the first responder is not always possible on an open forum with many requests each day.
All the best,
Texruss

Thanks a million Yellowhammer and Texruss.
Tex, I will follow Yellowhammer's advice, and as soon as it's all done I'll repost my new log. This may take me a day or two. Thanks to both of you.

Hi Yellowhammer,
I did as you instructed, and I will copy and paste a new log. There were a few things that my system would not allow me to delete. It wouldn't allow me to delete C:\PROGRAM Files\list face build, and I couldn't find C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate and C:\WINDOWS\system32\dp-b23011805.exe. I also couldn't find the Internet Explorer Cache. I did find a file in C:\Windows called "cache" but I didn't empty it because I didn't see the words "Internet Explorer" anywhere and I was concerned I'd be deleting the wrong thing. I also couldn't delete the file called Rem16 from my temp. folder. It said access was denied on that one. After I rebooted my McAfee Firewall informed me that C:WINDOWS\Temp\Rem15.exe was requesting access to the Internet. I denied access, but I'm not sure it was the right thing to do.
Also, after I ran the Ad-Aware scan, it informed me that some objects couldn't be removed. It advised me to close any open windows, but none were open at the time. It showed this file: C:Windows\system32\inetadpt.dll. I did reboot and reran another scan, but I'm not sure if it helped any.
Okay, here's my new log. Thanks for all your help! After I post my new log I will gather up all your recommendations that you listed and I will install those on to my system.

Boot to safe mode.
Click the CTL-ALT-DEL keys to open task manager.
Look for "lite admmin.exe" in the applications or processes and end task on it if it is running.
Once it has ended, delete the folder in C:\Program Files that begins with LISTFA
Then close all windows and have hijackthis fix the following:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://allaboutsearching.com/passthrough/index.html?http://about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = res://C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll/sa

Then delete the following:
Folder C:\PROGRAM Files\Toolbar
Then browse to C:\Documents and Settings\Tootsie\Local Settings\Temp. Delete all the Files and folders in the temp folder.
Then browse to C:\windows\temp. Delete all the files in the temp folder.
Then go the control panel and open the internet options. Click on the "General" tab. Then click on the "Delete Files" button.
Then reboot and post another log. We made progress the last time and should make more this time.

Yellowhammer,
After I go into safe mode, I go on to Windows and then I hit CTL-ALT-DEL and nothing happens except that my mouse curser freezes and won't move. I tried it twice, and the only way I could shut the computer down was to push the buttons off. I couldn't get it to do as you instructed. It never showed me the task manager.
Thanks, Many Arrows

Okay, here goes. Thanks ChrisRLG for the tip on the taskbar. It worked just fine. The "lite admmin.exe" file didn't show at all in the task manager. I was able to delete the list face build file from C:\Program File.
When I rebooted I got 3 messages from the Spyware Guard, and I wasn't sure what to do. This is what I did, and I apologize if I was wrong. It told me an attempt was being made to change my Internet Explorer settings. It detected a BHO (Browser Help Object). It identified it as Prog ID - twaintec.twaintecobj1. File location - C:\WINDOWS\twaintec.dll. Please don't get mad at me, but I told it to remove it, so it did. I just didn't know what to do.
Then it told me that my Internet Explorer Homepage has been changed from http://allaboutsearching.com/passthrough/index.html?http://about:blank to about:blank, and I instructed it to keep it that way, Right? I know we're trying to get rid of this one.
Lastly, it said my Internet Explorer search assistant was being changed from http://www.websearch.com/ie.aspx?tb_id=50032 to None, and I also instructed it to keep it that way.
I've also noticed that when I now turn my system on I get a Windows Installer window that tells me it's preparing to install. Then a few seconds later another window appears that says, "Please wait while Windows configures Microsoft Word 2002." This has never happend before, but now is happening every time I reboot.
One more thing also. There are a whole mess of backup files in my Hijack This folder. Should I delete them?
Okay, here's my new log. Thanks so much for all of your help! You have been great.

You did that all correct - we sometimes forget, if people are using Spywareguard or Winpatrol (or similar), to warn them what to expect.
============================
You have one infection that requires a special program to fix.
Download LSPfix here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
Launch the application, and click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox.
Check all instances of inetadpt.dll (and nothing else), and move them to the "Remove" pane.
Then click Finish.
Please post a fresh hijackthis log after a reboot.
You do have some optional removals that could be done such as the kodak/backweb and the MS resource hog OCA.exe and if you wish we can give some advise on those that could go, and make your machine lean and mean. But that is the last of the malware. Do post back so we can see how the removal went.

Thanks ChrisRLG for your help!
I've done as you instructed, but I want to tell you that I've done that same step before. It seems that inetadpt.dll appeared again. I've also noticed some NEW icons on my desktop since the last reboot. What the heck is going on? I have 3 new icons: Instant Love Alert, Free Games-Cash Prizes and Discount Travel Specials. These are all icons I never had on my desktop before. I also keep getting some Golden Nugget (casino) popup that won't go away.
One more thing too. Each time I reboot the Windows Installer comes on and congigures my Microsoft Word 2002. Do you know why this is happening?
And yes, if you would like to tell me what all I can get rid of to get my machine running like new again, I'd deeply appreciate it. I've only had my computer for 3 months.
Thanks for your help.

I'm not so sure I've done this right, but I'm trying. Please let me know if I didn't do it the way you've asked. I was confused as to where Option 1 from the menu is. I never found a menu or options. Sorry. Here's what I came up with.
Thanks so much!

========================
Download PrcView here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/pv.zip, unzip it to the desktop.
Be sure to have at least 1 Internet Explorer window open, then double click on the runme.bat.
From the menu choose option 1
Notepad will open with a log in it. Pease post that log here, with a new hijackthis log. It may need more than one message to post it.
