Internet down due to spyware

After working for years, my DSL suddenly will not connect. After speaking with my DSL support they determined that all connections and my cables, line coming in etc were all good. They said that I had Spyware causing the internet connection problem. I do remember that before my connection went bad, I kept getting a popup saying my calsp.dll file was infected with a trojan virus. So I began reading up on this issue from this website and saw many others with similar issues. So I began to run what they were told to run. I ran (in safe mode and not) :

LSPfix

SpyBot

HiJackthis

CWShredder

AdAware

Virus Scans (PCcillian)

Cleanup

I deleted the caslp file along with others mentioned, such as sed.exe. These fixes did find 100's and 100's of spyware, ads, temp files, etc. And now it shows all is clean (I think)

So, each day I run some stuff, clean up stuff, but keep gettiing the same error. No internet connection and when I try to repair it - I get "Cannot renew IP address". So, as many others have done, I will list my hijack output to see what can be done. I appreciate any help anyone has. I hope there is something that can be identified as to why it just won't log on anymore.

scubagtr,

There quite alot to do, so let's get started...

Download LSPFix and unzip to your desktop, then run it. Now, we need to:

1. check(tick) " I know what i'm doing".
2. click on (highlight) each occurance of the following, one at a time:

aklsp.dll

3. then click " >>", moving each one, individually, to the 'Remove' pane.
4. (double-check, and make sure that only the above files are in the 'Remove'pane.)
5. click " Finish >>"

Let's download the Symantec VirtuMundo removal tool, and run it.

Run CWShredder again.

Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following, if present:

Anything with 'search' anywhere in the name.
Anything with 'toolbar' anywhere in the name.
WinTools
TIBS

Be careful not to remove any personal or system software. While your at it, post back anything you see that you didn't directly install or don't reoognize.

Download, then unzip to " C:\HJT", the newest version of HiJackThis; version 1.99.0. Then repost your log, either now, or after following the steps in the solution ( if provided in this post). This version has features that might help in 'cleaning' up your system.

Now, let's run HiJackThis, then:

1. click " Config..."
2. click " Misc Tools"
3. click " Delete a file on reboot"
4. browse to, then double-click on each of the file(s) below, one at a time:

C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPSSvc.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WToolsS.exe
C:\windows\redirect7.exe
C:\windows\180ax.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsA.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\PIB.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\WSup.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ldrclnrf.exe
C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsB.dll
C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\toolbar.dll
C:\WINDOWS\alchem.exe
C:\windows\easywww2.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\aqlgcnz.exe
C:\WINDOWS\bkxazgz.exe
c:\windows\system32\aklsp.dll

5. when prompted to " Reboot Now", after selecting each file, select " No"

Now, let's open a command prompt and unregister the dll(s) we're going to remove, by entering the following:

regsvr32 /u WToolsB.dll
regsvr32 /u toolbar.dll

It's ok, if these aren't found or 'error' out. If you want, just copy and paste the individual lines to a command prompt to save on the typing.

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

Thank you Mike. I went through and did everything you said and now my internet is working again. Here is my latest Hijack report. I'm not sure which thing you did made it start working again, but I thank you for all the help you gave me and the help I've seen you give others. I guess the next step is to setup some programs to prevent all these dang files from loading on again.

scubagtr,

Your welcome! The way some of this stuff is written, it's really difficult to know exactly what it'll do on someone's system.

It looks like we have just one more file to go. Check it out and see if it's something you recognize, or remember installing - if not we'll assume it's an attempt by the programs you've just 'fixed' to reinfect your system.

Just a few more things to do...

Now, let's run HiJackThis, then:

1.  click "Config..."
2.  click "Misc Tools"
3.  click "Delete a file on reboot"
4.  browse to, then double-click on each of the file(s) below, one at a time, if present:

   C:\WINDOWS\system32\gfxzoomi.exe

5.  when prompted to "Reboot Now", after selecting each file, select "No"

Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [gfxzoomi] C:\WINDOWS\system32\gfxzoomi.exe

O16 - DPF: {35020238-5912-11D1-9A00-00C04FD8DC2E} (DameWare DTP Control Class) - https://www.ext.ch2m.com/cgi-bin/controls/ddtp.dll

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".

If everythinng is running ok, let's do some cleanup...

  1. Run "Disk Cleanup" and allow it to remove everything it finds.
  2. Go to www.trendmicro.com and click "Free Online Scan". When it's down, select all available drives, then click "Scan".
  3. Run AdAware SE Personal and Spybot S&D again, and allow them to remove everything they find.
  4. Disable, then re-enable system restore; with a reboot in-between. Then immediately create a new restore point manually.

Post back a new log for final clearance, and i'll see if anything else needs attention.

Mike.
