Internet not working
Steve sent me over here and told me to have Mike take a look at this. I cannot connect to my internet, and I've tried a whole bunch of things with the help of Steve. This is a last resort. Do you see anything suspicious that would keep me from being able to connect?

You have remnants of Clientman and Incredifind as well as the pesky Viewpoint Media player, but those can be disposed of easily (a 1.99 HJT log would be nice as suggested). They should not be the cause of your Internet problems.
The Internet access loss could well be a winsock problem. I would suggest downloading LSPfix to a floppy and run it on the affected machine. Look on Zupe's page for a list of malware LSPs. Full details here:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
http://www.angeltowns.com/members/zupe/lsps.html
http://russelltexas.com/malware/lspfixinstructions.htm
I have seen three machines in the past month exhibit this behavior and all were repaired quickly with LSPfix.

Go to this sight http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/enterprise.htm and do an online scan and delete whatever it finds. Be sure to highlight the drives you want to have searched.
After that could you please go to http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html and download AdAwareSE and delete what it finds. Then while using AdAware, click on add-ons and get their plug-in for the VX2 variant, and run that and delete what it finds.
After that please go to http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html and download SpyBot and run that and delete what it finds.
Now please go to http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html and download the new version of HiJackThis to its own folder that you create on your C:/ drive.
Please post the new the log that it generates right here so that it maybe viewed and analyzed for problems
I am sure Mike will help you out but if you do these things first that will help him out too.
Thanks
Steve

While the LSPfix is a great suggestion, unfortunately, it's already been tried and unsuccessful. Here is what I have found out about my computer through working with Steve...
"Well, I'm out of ideas. I rarely recommend it, but have you considered wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Windows. I really hate to even suggest this, because it's become a real challenge for me to solve this problem, but I'm out of ideas. In summary, it appears to me that the network card is working, it is connecting to the router and getting an IP address, you can ping by IP address but not by URL, rebuilding the TCP/IP stack with winsockfix, lspfix, & resetting through Windows has not cleared the problem, the hosts file is not blocking dns access, Norton Internet Security is not interferring, unless uninstalling Norton did not remove whatever is causing the problem, and there doesn't appear to be any other software running that could cause the problem. If someone else reads this and has any other suggestions, I'm sure that surefine would be most grateful. I would also be most grateful because its driving me nuts as well. "

Ok, I removed all of those from HijackThis and I still couldn't get a connection. I tried the part about rebooting and repairing, and this is what it said on the Command program after I pinged those two addresses:
(C)Copyright Microsoft Corp 1990-2001.
Ping request could not find host www.dell4me.com. Please check the name and try
again.

Let's fix these...
Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310}_ - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4FC95EDD-4796-4966-9049-29649C80111D}_ - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}_ - (no file)
O2 - BHO: AIM Helper - {D70E6A20-7060-4829-B3D7-B6624A1DE7C6} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\AIM TOOLBAR\AIMHELPER.DLL (file missing)
Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

Ok, let's tackle this thing one step at a time...
-----
First, go to a command line and enter:
netsh winsock reset
Then reboot your computer.
-----
Next, when your computer boots up, if your using broadband:
1. Go to Network Connections and click on the icon that represents your internet connection.
2. Click Repair
-----
Next, Go to a command line and enter:
ping www.dell4me.com
ping 143.166.83.21
-----
post back the results.

Uninstall Viewpoint Media Player in Add/Remove Programs.
Scan and fix check these items in HijackThis:
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310}_ - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4FC95EDD-4796-4966-9049-29649C80111D}_ - (no file)
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}_ - (no file)
O2 - BHO: AIM Helper - {D70E6A20-7060-4829-B3D7-B6624A1DE7C6} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\AIM TOOLBAR\AIMHELPER.DLL (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe
O9 - Extra button: Dell Home - {08DCFC6C-B6E4-480C-95A4-FC64F37B787E} - http://www.dellnet.com (file missing) (HKCU)
O16 - DPF: Win32 Classes -
Reboot and then try your access again. Failing that I would suggest a new network card and patch cable as a substitution test and if it fails then do a refresher reinstall of XP over the top of the existing install. Backup data first as a precaution.
HTH,
Texruss

Do me a favor. After you enter the ip-address in the address field, and press enter, select all the text in the address field, copy/paste it back as a reply to this post. Let's see if something is changing the url on us...

Ok. We might be having a problem with Internet Explorer. Do you have anyother browsers installed on your system?
