I have this problem with wild tangent programme,,,, can never remove this... help

It looks like there's a few virus/trojans lurking about.

Let's get started...

Try going to www.trendmicro.com and clicking "Free Online Scan". When it's down, select all available drives, then click "Scan".

-----

I'd also recommend running:

1. AdAware SE Persornal, and perform a "full system scan".
2. Spybot S&D, and click "Check for Problems".

Reboot your computer into "Safe Mode"



Go to Add/Remove programs and remove(uninstall) the following:

WildTangent


Before we begin, let's move HiJackThis to it's own folder; like c:\HJT. When we're done ' cleaning' off your system, we're going to ' flush' the temporary folders which, with HiJackThis in it's current location, will lose both the program and the backups it creates. These backups are important in case we need to restore any 'fixed' entry(s) later.


Now, let's run HiJackThis, then:

1. click " Config..."
2. click " Misc Tools"
3. click " Delete a file on reboot"
4. browse to, then double-click on each of the file(s) below, one at a time:

-

C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
( The valid location for this file with your operating system should be: c:\windows\system32 )

C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll

-

5. when prompted to " Reboot Now", after selecting each file, select " No"


Run HiJackThis and click " Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:

(This, more than likely isn't a good file. Hopefully the online virus scan will locate it.)

Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click " Fix checked".

Reboot your system normally.


Remember there's a 'good' IEXPLORE.EXE and a potentially 'bad' one on your system. The difference will be the folder in which they reside. Try doing a 'Search..." for "IEXPLORE.EXE" and posting back the results along with a new log.

Cleanup...
 
1.  Run "Disk Cleanup" and allow it to remove everything it finds.
2.  Enable, then disable system restore; with a reboot in-between. Then immediately set a new restore point manually.
 
 
Hosts files...
 
If you don't have any special entry(s) in the hosts file, then let's set it back to default. That should clear up that 01 entry in the log.

Run HiJackThis and click "Config...", "Misc Tools", "Open hosts file manager", then click "Open in notepad". Select all the text in notepad, then right-click on the selected text and select "Paste" - that should replace the old text with what you just 'copied' from above. Then just save the file back.
 
 
You should be all set to go! If you have anymore problem just postback. Have a great Christmas!

Dear Mike :

I am thrilled that some one can get rid of all the junk i had on my system within less than 24 hours.

Whew.... man what a job. Thanks... I have done all that you have suggested and now the system is as clean as it can be.

Good cleanup by you and Mike! Since you guys did all the "dirty work" (especially with the worm iexplore.exe) I'll add a couple of comments about optional removals to increase system performance:
