MBAM Anti-Exploit

Decided to give this utility a try and it worked fine yesterday for the session.

Coming back later in the day, the AE icon was nowhere to be found upon start up. It also would not start when I went to Start>Programs>AE and clicked on it.

Any ideas as what might be causing this?

1) Reboot your system, to see if this problem recurs, or if it fixes itself.

2) We need to find out exactly what's happening here:   Is it that 2a) MBAE is indeed functioning in the background, only that its icon is not appearing in your system tray?, or 2b) that MBAE is not running as a background process at all?

You should be able to use Task Manager (Processes)  [or WinPatrol (Active Tasks)]  to see whether the processes mbae.exe and mbae-svc.exe are running   [These might append the number 64 if you're running on an x64-bit operating system].   If they're showing as running, do you get any popup from MBAE when you open a protected program (e.g., IE, FF, PaleMoon)?   [You should get the popup, unless you adjusted MBAE  *NOT* to show system tray notification tooltips.]   If the processes are running, and you get such a popup message, the problem is just that you're missing the system tray icon.   So you'll then have to consider whether your task bar is set to "hide" some icons.

On the other hand, if neither process is running, something more has gone wrong.   You might try reinstalling the program (over itself)... or better yet, uninstalling the program, rebooting, and reinstalling the program.   If this still doesn't fix things, you should post your issue in their forum, https://forums.malwarebytes.org/forum/126-anti-exploit-product-support/

Hi David...

For some reason I didn't check in Task Manager or pull up Winpatrol. to see if it was still running.

Went ahead and reinstalled and it seems to be working fine. :emotion-10:

I assume you have the latest version, 1.08.1.1196 ??

There are two additional steps for a "clean install", which include deleting two directories.   See here for details:   https://forums.malwarebytes.org/topic/171634-mbae-fresh-re-install-steps/

If you try that, and it still doesn't fix things, then post in their help forum.  Be sure to include a ZIP copy of the program's log files https://forums.malwarebytes.org/topic/144403-readme-first-posts-here-need-to-include-mbae-logs/

But the very next day....

Upon start up the icon did not appear in the tray. Instead, there is a pop up box with the message. that MBAE has not started, the AE process will be terminated. The available options are closing the box or hitting "OK"

Leaving the box open for the time being being, TM Processes show the program running, and WinPatrol shows it as running in Start Up programs, Services, and Active Tasks.

After closing the box or pressing OK, process is no long listed, and the service is stopped in TM; and in WinPatrol, is shown as "READY' in Start Up programs "STOPPED in Services, and not listed in Active Tasks.

So, not sure if it running deeply in the background, or if something is wrong with the application and installation. The message box reappeared after three restarts...the last time taking awhile. :emotion-6:

Removed those directories and tried again, but it seems that the program doesn't like my Vista computer. I have it up and running correctly on my other computer with Windows 7, so will it for the more sensitive web sites.
