i'm not sure how to fix your problem, but McAfee has support forum where you can ask for help and they will give you detailed instructions. you can find them at mcafee help forum.

It took Dell tech support (via remote access) about 2 hrs. to uninstall and re-install McAfee Security Suite and get it working properly. Hecould not do the Add/Remove programs as McAfee leaves a lot of junk on your computer.

Thanks for your response.

After spending 4 hours trying to interpet their various instructions, I gave up.  I was unable to find the telephone number for technical support on the site (although they said it was there).  I have now paid for Dell tech support and, at this moment, the technician is trying to fix my computer by uninstalling and re-installing McAfee.  So far, it is not working, but he will tryagain. Obviously, I am writing this on a different computer

Thank you so much for getting back to me.

The latest version of McAfee Security suite is very troublsome.  I advise keeping the older version.  If you read the forums, there is a lot of anger about the new suite, version 8.  You need to turn on the parental controls for the firewall to work.  At the top of the McAfee forum are tools that completely remove the security suite.

Just to follow up.   After Dell tech support un-installed McAfee, when I used the computer the next day, I realized that he had not correctly re-installed it, so I had no proctection.  I called back and, to make a long story short, my hard drive needs to be replaced.   I have spent many, many hours on this problem and am not finished yet as I have to have a new hard drive sent to me and have it installed.  Fortunately, I am covered by warranty. My computer was in perfect condition until I updated to the newer version of McAfee.  When I get my new hard drive, I am thinking I will not use any McAfee products.   I do appreciate the attempts of others here to help me and I hope my reporting of this serves as a forewarning to others.

Sorry to hear about your recent bad experience. A few weeks back I removed the same AV program from a new Dell PC. I replaced the AV program with NOD32 and have had no issues. You might want to check this product out.

The ESET product is wonderful and you can try it for free (30 days).
