McAfee Security Suite

I just upgraded to McAfee Security Suite 2007 from the 2006 version and it has just absolutely drug down my computers operating speed to the point that it hardly runs.  The DSL page load up time actually exceeds dialup time by more then 100 to 300%.

It only occurres while working on the internet and not when working with other programs.

I am running Windows XP Pro, with IE7 and have not had a problem until now.

If I turn off some of features of the Security Suite program and let the rest run,  it seems to do ok but I can still tell a difference.

I cleaned all the temp files (%temp%) from run and all the (temp) files also from the run prompt, thinking it was using up a lot of memory.  That made no difference at all.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program and that make not difference.

Has anyone had this problem and do you have any solutions short of requesting a refund from McAfee.

You may be running low on system memory as these all in one programs Like McAfee use allot of memory..

I use this Anti virus, free for a year

and the built in firewall of XP  SP2

You can go here and download and run  http://ccleaner.com/  it is a pretty effective temp file and junk cleaner.Just be sure to uncheck index dat. Files from the scan. Some XP users have reported problems after cleaning them but i personally have not.You can also scan your registry for issues but be sure to create a back up before you let it remove anything in case of any problems.Again i personally have never had a problem. But Mcafee is a resource hog in general to begin with. You may also have to tweak your settings depending on what you have it auto scanning for and what protection options you have running. Some people adjust their settings more than the recommended default selections and this can sometimes tax your system while at the same time being protection overkill. They are called the recommended settings for a reason.

zras01, I would recommend you delete McAfee completely using the McAfee removal tool here
and then reinstall the new McAfee version you have on hand.  If the computer continues to run slowly, delete it again and move on to another security system.  Many people run McAfee and Norton successfully but many report slowdowns.  Probably depends on the system specs and horsepower.

zras01,

I had the same problem....it made me register on this forum.  Here's the link to the thread I created with this issue:

I'm using the preloaded one (which does not slow down anything) for the remainder of its free subscription...after that??  who knows....

And, I too feel ripped off......
