Msg saying windows has detected spyware infection

Question

I keep getting a yellow box with the msg that windows has detected a spyware infections, yet when I click on the red circle with the white ckmark in it nothing happens altho it says windows will not upload latest tools etc.  I have run my norton full scan and it finds nothing..I turned off the norton and turned on windows firewall protection and still nothing when I try to get the windows downlaod to install up to date protection and fix the problem...HELP!! Thank you very mch

Just do this please go to here and download HiJackThis to its own folder that you create on your C:\ drive at C:\HJT.
After it is downloaded open the program and click Scan and Save to log.

Post the log that it generates in the HiJackThisForum for analysis.

better safe than sorry. It is just another spyware program. scan and download this free software antispyware and adware remover. let me know if it makes a difference download it here

Rocky, I downloaded the noadware 4.0 and it scanned the computer and found some that were considered dangerous etc but won't delete them without me paying $37 but the red circle with the white X in it did go away..is there a way to delete each item it found without paying for it?  Thanks

if it provides a location, try deleting them yourself. or download adaware-se. it deletes for free http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/

I have the exact same problem right now, and I'm following the instructions by zbestwun2001 to download the HJT and post the log. I also posted about my problem on the MS Community newsgroups, so I'll post it here just to describe the problem more. In the meantime, please let me know if you guys can get this one fixed.

I've recently been getting a message that pops up from the toolbar out of a red circle with a white "X" in it. It's a bubble message from Windows that says my computer is infected with Spyware, and to click here for Windows to download the most up to date Spyware protection. I've clicked and nothing happens. This message keeps popping up every few seconds and is a major pain.

So far I've ran a Mcaffee scan, Housecall, Stinger, AOL Spyware, and Spy-Bot seek and destroy. Spy-Bot found some things and I deleted them all which seemed to cure another problem I had, which was my desktop background changing from the default one, and not being able to change back. After I ran the Spy-Bot, the next time I logged online the message did'nt pop up, but the very next time I go online it's back again so I guess whatever Spy-Bot found was'nt the culprit for what's been happening.

I'm currently trying to use other Spyware programs that will hopefully catch this spyware.

I wanted to ask if anyone has any tips or suggestions on what to do and how to stop this? Also, could it be some kind of error with Windows itself? Because I've ran a bunch of stuff and none of them seem to catch this thing.

I tried to follow instructions from ZB1 but not very good with computers altho my red box with that msg is gone..I could not seem to get it into a log to send anywhere..so as long as norton says OK and msg not popping up not going to worry about it until I can get someone over here that knows computers and can follow his suggestions..when I did his I also got sent to a site to pay to rid of items..computers!!!!!

I downloaded the ad-aware.SE and  let it delete all that it found and so far my computer is still running!!!  LOL  I'm not good with computers and saving logs etc so this worked for me
