MyWay Removal Advice

Question

I would appreciate any advice on removing DeSrcAs.dll safely from the system and from IE.   When I uninstalled the MyWay search assistant through the 'Add or Remove Programs' my browser cotinued to ask for the dll and IE crashed, making my computer unusable.   In addition, when I attempted to upgrade my laptop to Vista, DeSrcAs.dll crashed causing IE to crash. Once again making the upgrade and my laptop unusable.   I am tired of restoring from backups due to this pesky unnecessary peice of software that was pre-installed.   I am nervous about follwoing the instructions posted, as the normal uninstall process has failed me. It is not cleaning up completely. There are no instructions fro a complete registry cleanup of this thing.

This has worked with XP, but I cannot say it will work with Vista.

(1) Remove My Way Search Assistant
* Close all open Web browsers
* Click Start- Control Panel- Add or Remove Programs
* Double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon
* Click Remove a program
* Click My Way Search Assistant
* Click the Change/Remove button
* Follow the prompts

* From the Add/Remove list, click MyWebSearch (If not listed, go to 3)
* Click the Change/Remove button
* Follow the prompts

Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility from here:

Install the program, then start it. Scroll down the list and click My Way Search Assistant entry, click the Remove button.

Download a self-extractable version of HijackThis from here:http://ralphcaddell.com/Uploads/HjThis.exe

Double click on hijackthis.exe to extract hijackthis to folder c:\hijackthis.

It will extract it to that folder and open the folder for you. It will also create a shortcut on your desktop to HijackThis.

HijackThis will scan.

Place a checkmark next to these if they still exist:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/myway
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell4me.com/myway

DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything else. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Close all windows except HijackThis and click "Fix Checked". Close HijackThis.

Reboot.

That should do it. If not, do a "Scan and save log" with HijackThis. Please post that log on our HijackThis board.
