Need help choosing anti virus

Question

I'm using a Poweredge 2850 server for my building automation system. I control 16 bldgs. over the web with this system. What Norton antivirus software package would anyone recommend? Thanks

I wouldn't . . . I'd recommend either eTrust Antivirus 7.1, or eTrust EZ antivirus. Much less "Bloatware" to bog down your system, and the updater runs silently in the background, it uses ftp to query the update server.

The 7.1 product is for businesses, the EZ product for home/small businesses. I installed the EZ product on a Power Edge 2003 server, and its been working great. You can check out both products at the CA Store

I am running a PE1600sc server and am  using Norton/Symantec Small Bsiness antivirus version 9.  I have had no problems in two years.  Current is version 10.0 but I haven't done the update yet.  One school I attend, LaSalle University, dumped Norton and switched the McAfee, they had problems with Norton support.  The have several thousand PC, which included those in the dorms, and at least a handful of servers.

I'd listen to msgale.

He is quite knowledgeable in these type of matters. There are some free ones available but msgale knows that also. I am sure if he felt they would serve your needs he would have recommended them first.

This is not to offend anyone, but to clarify two minor points, I still can't type, then phrase 'The have several thousand PC, which included those in the dorms, and at least a handful of servers,' should read 'They have a few thousand PC, which included those in the dorms, and at least a handful of servers.'  And lastly, I am relating my experiences and situations I am familuar with, that is not to say that there aren't other valid soolutioons.

If Avast! will run on your server, which I assuming is running server software, I know no reason why it can't be used.  I guess I am not very clear.  I will only recommend software that I have used successfully and Iwill not recommend anything that I know nothing about.  Since Avast! is an unknown to me I can not recommend it. Well then why couldn't she run Avast! since it's free.

I've been using it for almost 1 year and it serves my needs just fine. Small, uses little resources and has auto updates etc..

The free version of Avast! works just fine for me.
Auto database updates quite frequently and no hassle using the program.
Now I know the pay version has a few more bells and whistles, but in essense they are the same program The free version is quite adequate for the regular computer user.

This is only my 2 cents and I have used Norton, McAfee, AVG7 free and pay version and Avast! both free and pay versions.

You can download their pay version free for 90 days, I think, before they make you make a decision if want to keep it and pay or get the free one.
