Need to delete stubborn spam message

I have received a spam message in my MS Outlook inbox which I cannot delete.  If I click on it to either delete it or move it to the junk email folder, Outlook stops responding and has to be shut down and restarted.  I am using a Dell XPS 410 desktop machine with Windows Vista.  My security software is Zone Alarm security suite.  Do any of you have any idea how to purge this problematic spam message?

Try holding the shift key while deleting it.

Maybe it will delete in safe mode.

Hi Tom,

Holding the shift key down while trying to delete the message ends up with the same results -- Outlook stops responding.

When you speak of using safe mode, are you suggesting that I reboot the computer in safe mode and then open outlook and try again to delete the message?

Finally deleted the offending spam message.

I rebooted my machine into safe mode and opened outlook.  The first attempt to delete the file caused Outlook to lock up again.  I restarted it and selected a couple of adjacent messages in addition to the offending file and was able to delete the lot of them.  This also locked up Outlook.  I rebooted my computer normally and restarted Outlook.  The offending file and the selected adjacent files were gone and Outlook was happy again.

Thanks for the feedback.
