Newbie needs help with HJT logfile

Question

This is the result of my first time running  Hijackthis I always run spybot pretty regular and I ran spysweeper yesterday and came up with 20 adware and 592 traces. Would be oh so grateful if someone could help.  Thanks in advance, Bob     The forum wont let me post because of content the word (ga* or *ay) is in one of the logfile results.

bubba,   if there are 'bad' words that the forum won't let you post... I assume you mean 'ga' followed by 'y', then just 'edit' that portion out of the file... for example, write it as 'ga--y' or something like that... and then post your log.   we need to see it in order for someone to help you. The prob I was working on was a picture from adware I suppose was attached to my desktop No matter what I did it was still there. Also on occasion I would have a prob and computer would freeze up. After ctrl alt del it would unfreeze Sometimes when I go to shutdown a window would pop up saying ending program I think it said Shellcon or Shellcom And I know there is something else running by the way the line where you type (ie. the next letter you are going to type) I guess it would be the cursor flashes erratically And while we are at it I never did anything like this (ie.Spysweeper,hijackthis) and I am pretty certain I have issues Pls dont take that literally lol Anyway thanks in advance here is your after reboot version. Much of the description you just gave was in the past tense.... were you giving us a "history" of problems you had ?? Or did you mean that you still have these problems?

At this point, I'm gonna try to ask someone else to step-in, to determine additional problems (if any) that you might have. Please be advised that we're very "understaffed" at the moment, so I can't make any guarantee as to when the next helper will arrive.

First: You're running HJT from a TEMP directory:

C:\DOCUME~1\GWENDE~1.TY\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 2 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe

When you do so, either HJT will not create its log files and backup files; or if it does, you risk losing them when the TEMP's cache is cleared. It's important that you save these backup files, in case you have to "undo" [restore] some of the things you "FIX" incorrectly.

So you need to move HJT into a separate, non-temporary, non-Desktop, directory of its own. We recommend using the directory C:\HJT , so that it will then appear in your log, under running processes, as C:\HJT\HiJackThis.exe

Run HJT. click on DO A SYSTEM SCAN ONLY

Place a check-mark in the box in front of each of the lines:

Still have,although not all the time, except for pic attached to desktop I cant do anything at all with it. Sometimes after running spybot and rebooting it will go to a silhouette or now it is just a very small box with an x in it. I am sorry I wasn't clear enough What are the results of this logfile anything major. Thanks in advance, Bob

I only handle certain types of infections... which is why i've contacted one or two other people, who hopefully will step-in to continue helping.   Desktop problems are often related to Smitfraud/SpyAxe... but I'll leave it to the next helper to decide.

Your log doesn't show anything active but that's normal for most of the desktop hijackers. For messed up desktops we usually run smitrem from Dave's World.

Usually that will do it. The website tells you what to do but there are better instructions at:

If you have problems logging in with your usual login in Safe Mode you can use Administrator then when you reboot into regular mode and login with you usual login you will need to run the program one more time.

It generates a log. We may not need to see it but just in case save it somewhere you can find it again.
