Noadware and AOL

Maybe this could be helpful to someone:  I ran Noadware and Spybot on my 8400.  Afterwards, my better half was doing some on-line shopping (aol 9.0 optimized) and kept having the AOL software shut down whenever she tried to enter check out to process her order.  Also got a prompt that my AOL software had encountered a problem.  It seems that one of the two programs I ran did away with a file (Biz-something or other) in the AOL software that asks for a survey about the business you are doing your shopping with.  A re-install of the AOL software corrected the problem.  Hades hath no fury like a woman that can not on-line shop, hope this keeps someone out of the doghouse!

To comment, one of the programs you are running is considered a rouge product:

http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm  The other your called Spybot.  There are a few rouge products out there calling them selves that.  If you were using Spybot Search & Destroy here:  http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html you were using one of the best  freeware products on the market. If you have the correct "Spybot", I suggest you take the time to read your "Help" menu, as the tools there will tell you how to use the software, and how to use "Recovery" in the event you make a mistake.  Good luck...pskelley

Yes, I am running spybot search and destroy.  The other program is called NoAdware, I beleive it is the one that caused problems with the AOL, as I have ran spybot s&d before with no problems.  I read somewhere in the forum about also running the NoAdware program as well as the s&d.  Is the NoAdware considered a rouge product?  I am new to this stuff and appreciate any and all input.  Thanks!   I intend to check the links you gave, can not do it at this computer. (at work, restricted to sites we can visit)  Searched the forum, sounds like noadware is no adgood!

Right you are, you might want to kep the link to information about rouge products and refer to it in the future prior to installing any of that garbage. " Here is what was said in describing Noadware:
aggressive, deceptive advertising ( 1 , 2 , 3 ); has exploited names of "ad-aware" ( 1 , 2 ); earlier version was same app as Adware Hitman, Consumer Identity, Protect Your Identity, SpyBan, SpywareAssasin, Spyware C.O.P., SpywareKilla, The Adware Hunter, & TheSpywareKiller - (Note: other domains associated with NoAdware include: adware-removal.biz, adwareremoval.net, downloadspybot.com, free-adware-scan.com, sdspybot.com, spybot-spyware.com) [A: 6-26-04 / U: 10-17-04]"

I suggest you consider the free version of Ad-aware and run it alternatively with Spybot S&D.  I also would suggest you read all tutorials and help instructions for that program also so you know what you are doing when using it.  Hear are the suggested configuration and links to a couple of good tutorials if that will help.  pskelley

PSKELLEY-Thanks for the advice and information.  I assumed that NoAdware was adware and you know what happens when you assume!  Just glad this lesson was not more hard learned.  Thanks again!  Adware is what I originally read in the forums, bit on the NoAdware when I saw that-duh!
