hi. i downloaded avg 6.0 today to replace norton. i ran a check and it keeps listing a backdoor trojan that i cant seem to eliminate. i ran hijack and it wouldnt eliminate either. everytime i click the message box alerts of the trojan. any advice on how to rid this buggar. i am including log of hijack. the file it lists as a trojan is 020 on system 32. thanks

Lavasoft Support is the support site of Ad-aware.
Wilders Security has since stopped hijackthis log support due to the lack of experianced helpers.
Others that I would recommend Zerosrealm, Subratam.org, SpyWare BeWare and ComputerCops, but generally all those on that list will have experts to help you.

There are still some knowledgable people left posting here at Dell, so you may still get help from them.

According to this thread, that's a tough one, and AVG is one of the few AV products that even detects it!

If you want your HijackThis log analyzed by certified experts, you'll need to post it elsewhere. Also, there's a newer (1.98.2) version of HijackThis available here.

You may wish to register at TomCoyote.org and post your log in the Virus and Trojan Removals board at TomCoyote.org for review by certified volunteer experts. Be sure describe the problem you're experiencing.

I really wish people would get it right.  A HOME ROUTER WITH NAT IS NOT,  I REPEAT NOT A FIREWALL.  If a rogue piece of sofware gets on your PC it can send messages to whomever it wants, whats more as soon as it starts an electronic conversation iit can upload anything it wasts also.  You are, because of NAT protected from, for the most part from external probing, but that is all.

Since this thread is about AV vendors and malware, I'm not sure what you're referring to. Are there some links in signatures that need to be reviewed? If so, whose and which ones?

I completely agree with your comments about most home routers. NAT accomplishes exactly what you describe, and no more.

OK, thanks! I check the links I put in my signature pretty carefully before I list them, but over time the content might have changed, and I don't check them all that often. I certainly appreciate it when people note problems or errors, though.

hi. i installed avg 6.0 to replace norton but have run into many headaches. first i think avg removed windows data and im not sure if restoring from the virus vault was successful. i got a blue screen that fileobject passed to iocancel file open is invalid. ??? also i am getting a trojan alert everytime i click on anything. but when i try to remove the file its warning it wont delete. ive tried a virus scan and also hijack program. i dont want to delete avg because i may lose needed files that were eliminated and placed in vault. but that may stop the blue error page. any advice is greatly appreciated. thanks
