Peer-to-Peer -- hacker's dream?
Friend's daughter computer has Piolet peer-to-peer application on it. I guess from research with Google, Piolet has to do with file sharing- mainly music. It must be popular with the college crowd. Entries Google stated that Piolet did not have spyware however one entry I noticed stated that the Piolet was a hacker's dream. The complaint seemed to indicate that the application did not work well with firewall and many ports were left open therefore inviting hackers or hijackers.
This computer has no firewall on it. It had trojans, adware, malware. a pop-up with LSA Shell (Export Version) problem which indicated to me history of Sasser worm infection. Texruss who has helped me in the past indicated that he would not have peer-to-peer application on computer. Is this because of danger of open ports?
I would appreciate information about the safety of peer-to-peer programs. I am trying to become more informed.

Actually I think you will find I always say I would not have a P2P "autoloading" on my system.
Big difference...there are decent P2Ps like WinMx and emule, but I still don't let those autoload (meaning start up when Windows loads and the program stays resident in memory...and creates an open port for as long as you are in Windows). Manually start them, do your business, then close the application.

No problem..the terminology autoloading is foreign to most people's knowledge of Windows and now you are one of the .05% who knows about it. *;-)
