Please help with this HiJack This Log.

Hello,
 
I have done all of the pre-work recommended on this board to be completed before posting a logfile.
 
I have been having lots of crashes and very sluggish performance at times despite all of the tools installed to prevent and maintain a spyware free environment, though my computer is older it still does not make sense to me that there should be so much latency in my performance speeds.

I see only one problem in the log and it's not malware. You are running two antivirus scanners in real time. That actually reduces your level of protection and causes system instability that culminates to a system crash.

Click start-->control panel-->add/remove programs
Scroll down the list to locate the program name Command Software Systems and click Remove. Reboot when the uninstall completes.

Run HijackThis again and check the following:
O23 - Service: DvpApi (dvpapi) - Command Software Systems, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Command Software\dvpapi.exe

Close all windows before clicking Fix Checked.

Locate and delete the following files/folders indicated in Bold text:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\ Command Software\dvpapi.exe

Reboot the system.

Run your normal disk cleanup and defrag, then post a new log. How is the computer running now?

Thank you, 1972vet,
 
However when I run add/remove programs it does not show up there and even when I downloaded "MyUninstall" as an alternative to that onboard windows applet, to possibly get it removed properly, it was not found to be a removable unit by that program either...
 
I see a folder that includes dvpapi.exe in the very path you suggested I look for after the fact with HiJack this...
 
C:\Program Files\Common Files\ Command Software\dvpapi.exe
but I don't want to do anything until I can be sure that I am properly removing the software in question...
 
any suggestions?

Don't do anything with the folder yet. Just run HijackThis and check the entry I suggested.

Tea Timer is undoubtedly protecting your system from unauthorized changes. You will have to disable Tea Timer in order for us to remove the antivirus software and continue with HijackThis. The Tea Timer application feature available with Spybot Search and Destroy is more or less a Registry monitor/guard and prevents anything from making changes to your system until you allow them. The easiest way to approach this hang up is to just disable it until we are finished.
To disable Tea Timer:

1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
5) Restart your computer.
We will re-enable it later on when we are satisfied with how the computer is running for you.

When the system comes back up, return to your add/remove programs list and try to locate a program named "Authentium Antivirus" or the company name "Command Software". Take your time and read each line to see if it is named differently. Sometimes the name of the application will tell what the application does (For example "DiskKeeper"...you would know that the application has something to do with the disk) Try to determine if there are any other applications listed there that may have something to do with an Antivirus Scanner. The only one you DON'T want to remove is the AVG Free edition.

If you find the application, click Remove and reboot when the uninstallation completes.

Sometimes, and this would be unusual for an antivirus application, software makers will include their uninstall string in various places. If you find nothing in the add/remove programs listing that may relate to the Authentium Antivirus application, then use the "Windows Explorer" to navigate to:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\ Command Software\dvpapi.exe

Once you have the Command Software folder open, look inside for a file with a name similar to "unins.exe" it may even read as "uninstall.exe" or "unwise.exe"...you get the idea. Something about one of the files listed in the program folder should give you a clue that it may be the uninstall string executable.
Another place to look is on your start-->All Programs which isn't really another location, just sometimes easier to find the shortcuts there. Look for the program name "Authentium Antivirus" and see if there is an uninstall string there that you can use.

Post back your findings.

I did everything you recommended and even found a program called Antispyware Blaster or something and removed that, but no Authentium or anything suspicious at all, and no uninstall file in the folder, I even ran Hijack this again and chose fixed checked and it did not do anything different to the results, I don't know if my computer has improved or not as I have just had time to focus on your directions and little else with my other time demands, thank you for your help so far.

OK, you aren't the first to have issues with the Command Software. The common denominator in the few cases I'v seen that are similar is the use of the Ewido application by the user.
I see you have the Ewido On line Scanner active X software installed. It is a known issue that Ewido sometimes removes uninstallers...I've posted the question in an Ewido forum to see if the on line scanner keeps back up copies for later restoring.

Meanwhile, you could check your own system folders for the Ewido application as it seems to me that if you used the on line scanner to remove something, a back up (if made) should be tucked inside that folder if it exists.

Post back your findings and in the interim, I will post back with whatever information I may get back from the forum. Thanks!

Please click start-->Run
then, in the run box, type or copy and paste the following:
CMD
then click "OK"

When the Command Prompt window opens, copy and paste the following:
sc delete dvpapi
Then hit your enter key. You should receive a "Delete Successful message.

Please reboot at this point to properly record the changes made to the disk.

Next, please run HijackThis again and check the following:

Close all windows except for HijackThis then click Fix Checked.

Locate and delete the following files/folders indicated in Bold Text:

Then, enter Command Software in the "all or part of the file name" box at the top. Scroll down to the "Look in" box and click the drop down arrow. Select your Local Hard Drive. Scroll down a bit more and click the "More advanced options". Make sure these three are checked:
Search system folders
Search hidden files and folders
Search subfolders

Then click the Search button at the bottom. Delete all instances found.

Now I would feel better if you were to download a fresh copy of AVG, then disconnect from the internet, uninstall the current copy of AVG running and reboot. Then, while still disconnected from the internet, install the fresh copy of AVG.

After installation, connect to the internet and update the application. Boot into safe mode and run a complete system scan. Allow the software to remove what it finds. Reboot and post a new HijackThis log. How is the computer running now?
