Pop-up, messenger service
Many of the calls for help involve trying to get rid of 'pop-ups'.
A running messenger service (this is not Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger) can be a major source of pop-ups that occur without even having opened a browser window.
I was just wondering why the experts never advise disabling this service?

Hey ddeerrff,
A look through the person's HijackThis! log will show if Messenger service is running. The topic of Messenger service has been covered so often in other boards (Winwhatever, Other Software and the like), I seldom see it in an HJT log. If I DID see it, it would be the first thing I would recommend disabling.

Since it's one of a variety of things that runs from "services.exe", I don't think it would appear in a log, except as an instance of services.exe.
