Possible DrWatson Postmortem Debugger Infection

Hello,

My computer is crashing anytime I bring up a video or anything streaming such as Sirius Radio and what not.  The computer has been running pretty sluggish as well, especially at startup.  I Ran Ad-Aware, Spy Bot, and Spy Sweeper just now, and recently ran my Panda Titanium Antivirus to try and clean up the computer a bit.  I occasionally get the DrWatson error, but only when I am trying to watch a movie or listen to audio.  Here is my log and thanks for the help in advance.

Your log looks just fine actually. Have you been infected with some malware recently? Perhaps your system just needs a cleaning and defrag. Please follow the detailed instructions below:

Copy the text below, between the lines, to Notepad and save it to your Desktop as "Cleantempfiles.bat" but without those quote marks.
---------------------------------------------------------
del c:\*.tmp
del %temp%\*.tmp /f
del %windir%\prefetch\*.*
del %windir%\temp\*.* /f
del C:\documents and settings\*\local settings\temp\*.* /f
----------------------------------------------------------
Now double click on the .bat file on your Desktop and answer "Yes" to each question to allow the batch to run. When finished the command prompt window will disappear. Reboot at this point and delete the .bat file on your Desktop.

Next, click start-->Choose Run in the Start Menu and type or copy and paste the following in the Run box and press ENTER:
cleanmgr /sageset:1

What you're doing here is setting up a cleaning profile for Disk Cleanup to use later on. When you type the above, a dialog box will appear with a list of junk file types that you can select for removal. You'll notice, you have more options to choose from here than you would if you were to just open up your cleanmgr from the "All Programs-->Accessories-->Tools" menu. Select which options you want to clean up by putting a check mark in each one but Do not put a check in the box for "Compress old files".
- Click OK after making your choices.

Now, copy the text below (between the lines) to Notepad and save it to your Desktop as "CleanUpandDeafrag.bat" but again, without those quote marks:
--------------------
@echo off
cleanmgr /sageset:1
cleanmgr /sagerun:1
defrag c:
@exit
--------------------

Now, double click on the .bat file on your Desktop and click "OK".
When the clean up and defrag complete, reboot your computer. You can save that .bat file and double click on it about once a week to run your automated clean up and defrag with one click so-to-speak.

Post back and let us know how the computer is now behaving and if you are still having any more issues.

Thanks!

Vet,

I did everything you said but am still coming up with the error.  I even downloaded the new Windows Media Player and it is still crashing on me.  I just tried watching MSNBC news and it crashed on me.  Not quite sure what the deal was.  I thought at first it was just internet explorer but it also did the same to me with mozilla firefox.  I have not had really any infections with malware/spyware.  Had the about:blank a year or more ago but got rid of that.  When I recently ran spy sweeper it picked up a lot of junk as well but nothing too bad.  Anywho, if you have any other suggestions for me they would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks for your time!

Click start-->control panel-->system
When the System Properties box opens, it will open to the "General" tab. At the bottom of that window under "Computer", post back with the information that you see there.

Thanks!

Vet,

It says

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4

Mobile CPU 1.60 GHz

1.20 GHz, 256 MB of RAM

Hopefully that is what you were looking for!

Thanks

Dan

OK, as I suspected.

256 MB's of RAM is about what Windows XP needs just to breathe. When viewing videos, listening to audio and especially if you intend to do any editing of those files, you will need more RAM.

Have you been getting any Blue Screen error messages?

Vet,

I have not been getting any blue screen error messages....I have had this laptop since 2002, and have been wanting to upgrade to a desktop for a while now.  I was just sent my brothers used computer but hopefully that has more ram on it.  I don't have a monitor yet so will have to check that out!
