Problem with hardware install wizard

I used the perfomance troubleshooter on the dell website and it suggested I update my driver for my Sony 8X DVD / RW so I did the download and it appeared to program the dvd/ rw. The after rebooting, the found new hardware pop up came up the the hardware install wizard.

 

It stated that the windows verification could not be recognized and I clicked install anyway. Then it got an install failure and couldn't install the software. Now it won't even recognize the DVD/RW so I am stuck. How can I install this and get it to work.

 

Also, a plug and play mouse now gets the same error, but after a couple of times, it will work even though the install says it failed.
