redirected searches

All my searches in Mozilla and Internet Explorer and Opera are being redirected when I click on a link.  I've run Superspyware, spybot, spywareterminator, a ariva antivirus, and malware bytes.  None have fixed the problem. 

When I go from Bookmarks, it works correctly. When I do a google search, I see valid search links, but when I click on a link, it gets redirected (does not get directed to  porno or gambling sites, but apparently to other legitimate web pages).

Hi Dan,

Lets remove all references to Java as identified by that search. When complete and OTM has rebooted your PC dowload Java again from this Link and see if it will install.

Please download OTM by OldTimer. Save it to your desktop.

Double click OTM.exe to start the tool.
  • Copy the text between the dotted lines below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy):

  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar) to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy), and paste it in your next reply.
  • Close OTM

Note: If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

If the machine reboots, the Results log can be found here:

Where mmddyyyy_hhmmss is the date of the tool run.

Let me see the log from OTM and how you make out with Java install.
Regarding Adobe, did the link I gave recommend a re-install, i`m just curious.

Hi Kevin,

I ran the OTM, (log below), it rebooted, I then re-downloaded the Java update and ran it, and got the messages:

1.  The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable

and

2. it couldn't find jre1.6.0_18-c.msi that it needs to have.

Should I have tried to uninstall Java again (I haven't yet)?

I'll deal with Adobe after this, because I think I can reinstall it.

Hi Dan,

Java issue is proving to be a bit of a problem, lets see if we can make sure all references to Java are gone with the use of CCleaner.

Remove the installer of Java from your Desktop by deleting it. Next,

Download and scan with CCleaner

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation. IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbar-free or Slim versions instead of the Standard Build.
2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK " Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 24 hours"
3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.
In the Windows Tab:

  • Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Cookies if you want to keep those.
  • Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
  • Clean all entries in the "System" section.
  • Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
  • Clean any others that you choose.


In the Applications Tab:
  • Clean all except cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
  • Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
  • Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
  • Clean any others that you choose.


4. Click the " Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click " OK" and it will scan and clean your system.

In the Tools Tab
  • Select Startup
  • Check Startup list for any reference to Java
  • If present highlight by single left click, then disable.
  • Highlight again, then Delete
  • If no reference just ignore and continue


In the Registry Tab
  • Make sure all boxes are ticked
  • Select scan for issues tab ( on bottom at leftside)
  • When scan is finished click on Fix selected at bottom righthand side.
  • Select yes to backup alert, save to suitable place. eg my docs etc.
  • Click on Fix all selected issues, then close and re-boot.


Next,

Visit this Link and follow instructions how to download, install and verify Java. One other point, do you have system restore turned OFF, I tried to make a restore point command with OTM incase I needed to go back and it failed. It indicated SR was turned off?

Hi Kevin,

I did all of the above, and still couldn't load Java.  I got the same error messages I got before (the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable, and the other saying that it couldn't find jre1.6.0_18-c.msi)

I just tried removing Java 5.0 again, but that failed again.

My system restore is NOT turned off.  Should it be?

The CCleaner version was v2.33.1184, I couldn't find the version v1.27.260 you mentioned.

We got around our Adobe problems by loading a free pdf maker (my son did that this afternoon--I don't know which program offhand).  All we needed to do was turn Microsoft Office files into pdf's.

Hi Dan,

Go to this Link Look down the lefthand side of the page and locate the following:

Java Platform Standard Edition (Java SE) Underneath that you`ll see JDK/JRE - 6 In the box next to that, open the dropdown and select 6 update 18 Then select Go a new page will open.

Underneath JRE 6u18 you will find Download JRE and Installation instructions

Select Download JRE At the next window select your platform and just follow the prompts, eventually that should put back the missing update. If you need to, you can read the instructions as previous.

If that is successful Download Java 6 update 20 from Here That should remove update 18 automatically as it installs.

CCLeaner instructions have old version info, you got the latest version, thats ok.

No system restore should be on, it was OTM indicated it was switched off, mmmm thats very odd. See how you go with Java. Good news about Adobe, nice job.

Hi Kevin,

I followed all the steps, and it couldn't load the jre 6u18.  I got all the same error messges.  I also went back to 'add and remove programs' and tried again with the same result. I didn't try to download Jave 6 update 20 because the previous attempt was not successful.

Did you mean:  "No, system restore should be on", or "the system restore should not be on"? (because it is not on).

Hi Dan,

I`m really at a loss with your Java problem, i`ve found  a link that descibes an issue with Java and this file guard32.dll That file belongs to Comodo, I cant imagine everyone who uses a Comodo Firewall having that issue.

Can you actually download the Java 6 update 20 installer to your Desktop? if so do it, next turn off the Comodo program and try to run the Java installer, see if that works.

If that still doesn`t work boot into safemode and try the installer again.

If you cant actually download the installer, can you get a friend to download the installer and save to a memory stick, next copy or drag drop from stick to your Desktop then try the above procedure.

Regarding system restore, YES it should be on. I f you didnot turn it off let me know,

I'll try that.  I have always been able to download the update 20 installer to the desktop, I just can't finish running it.  I'll try turning off Comodo and see what happens.
