Some questions about Spy Sweeper and CounterSpy

Although I have AdAware, Spybot S&D, MS Spyware beta, and Spyware Blaster and feel they do a decent job for the detection or prevention of spyware/malware, I was wondering about other forum members experiences with the above mentioned paid for products.

The free programs above rarely pick up anything other than a tracking cookie now and then, but I am an inquisitive sort who likes to do the research and find out what is best or does the most efficient job...even if it might cost a little bit. Next month, when my Symantec subscription runs out on this 4600 (my other computer), I want to use Zone Alarm for the firewall and either Avast or AVG as the antivirus product.

Does this firewall work well with these antivirus programs, and also doesn't get into any territorial disputes with the various spyware programs. Thanks for sharing your experience with these products.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July....missing the cherry bombs and all the other dangerous and loud fireworks.  :smileytongue:

Hi, and happy 4th:

I use all those products (AVG free instead of avast) with the latest version of ZA (free) and they all play nicely
together.

[Edit] I guess I misread your post- if you were referring to Counterspy getting along with ZA, it does. It's very
similar to MS Anti-spyware, but at least it's out of beta, and is fully supported by Sunbelt. Can't comment on
Spy Sweeper.

If you want to drill deeper into spyware / adware removal, and you are wondering if the programs you are currently using are effective, then become proficient in the use of programs such as HijackThis and process and startup analyzers such as Processexplorer and Autoruns from www.sysinternals.com. At my place of work we use these  tools consistantly to analyze systems before using scanning software such as Spybot and Adaware.
