Spyware Removal (Medichi?)
Hi
I have been advised by your Virus/Spyware forum to download Hijack This, do a scan and send you the log file, which I've pasted below.
I have recently had problems with an unwanted porn site flashing up from nowhere and/or porn sounds coming from the speakers but no visuals. Also the time keeps going back an hour. The problem started a few weeks ago and other things happened like I couldn't get the Control Panel and window kept opening saying it was copying files. Someone helped by getting my Spybot, Adware and Spyware Guard to operate but the unwanted porn site and sounds have happened since.
Yesterday I downloaded SDFix and followed the instructions to run it in safe mode and I think it has deleted Medici2.exe and a couple of other things. (I realise now that I shouldn't have done this without coming to the forum first). But I have now been to the forum and done the advised HiJack This operation.
I don't know if you need to know but I have 3 accounts on the computer for myself, husband and son. I can send you the report from SDfix if you need it or it is pasted into my message on the Virus/Spyware forum at
http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=si_virus&message.id=65954#M65954
I would love to know what I need to do now. I am not very techno-savvy.
Thanks.

Heres the log (is it supposed to be that short?)
The length of the log depends on the depth of the infection. And there are some things the tool does than are not listed in the log file.

Hi
The computer seems to be better (thanks) but we have only used it minimally- for 15 minutes at a time really since following your instructions.
One thing I've noticed in the last few weeks (maybe longer) is that when my CA Security Centre starts up, which it does automatically when logging on to Windows, I always get a message a few minutes later saying that it has finished Updating the CA Conponents Automatically, and then the computer seems to run a bit faster. But I don't remember this happening every single time I logged on before, only periodically. Don't know if it has anything to do with anything. I could ring their support centre.
I've posted the Hijack log below and I really appreciate your help.

CA updating is normal. One of the first things some infections do it try to disable the update features of Anti Virus programs.
This next step is critical
You are currently running Windows SP1 (service pack 1) which has many security flaws.
It has been replaced by SP2 (service pack 2). It is a rather large download, about 2 hrs on Highspeed. But it is a must have. Without it your chances of re-infection are great.
Go HERE and download and install SP2. Once you have done that;
Reboot your PC->>Rerun Hijackthis and post a fresh Hijackthis log so I can see that it installed properly

H Bamajim
I had a few attempts at the SP2 download as I think my spy protection got in the way so I got some help and did it in Safe Mode. I think its installed correctly now and with updates.
Every time I log on though, my Spy Sweeper gives me a message to say that a BHO is being installed and that TEATIMER.exe is attempting to install a browser add on. I have to choose to Block it or Allow it. I think I've done both at different times. Do you know if I should allow or block it?
Anyway here is my HiJack log and thanks again.

Good work.
Every time I log on though, my Spy Sweeper gives me a message to say that a BHO is being installed and that TEATIMER.exe is attempting to install a browser add on. I have to choose to Block it or Allow it. I think I've done both at different times. Do you know if I should allow or block it?
Tea timer is a part of Spybot S&D, so yes you will want to allow it.
Now that your log is clean
There are some final notes:

I have noticed that I can subscribe to a Firewall with my CA Security Centre and wonder if that's a good idea as I wonder if I have too many anti spyware and anti virus things that start automatically when I log in to Windows.
I think I would tend to lean in adding the Firewall through CA.
Spysweeper, SpyBot S&D, and Spyware Guard basically all do the same thing, so Pick one of those to run at startup, the other 2 could be used as stand alone programs meaning they could be used to run scans when called upon, but not auto start.
The other programs you may keep or uninstall as you wish

Hi Bamajim
Thanks - I'll get the CA firewall in the next few days and do the other things you mention. Thanks so much for all this. You've fixed it!
