Task manager is disabled, and popups

Question

I've tried fixing the registry for the task manager problem and still isn't working. this is a store computer and i think a coworker messed it up over the weekend. I'm also getting popups warning of adware and spyware. At first glance, it appears that you have a collection of malware in there. Are employees allowed to surf the internet during working hours?

You also have McAfee as well as Avast running on that computer. Which one are you using for anti-virus protection?

I appreciate that you tried to work in the registry, but now that you have done that, I have no idea what changes have been made, so I cannot be sure we can correct that problem.

While I review the rest of your log, you can help me by addressing the following:

* Have you have posted this issue on another forum? If so, please provide a link to the topic.

* If you are using any cracked software, please remove it.

* If you are using any P2P (file sharing) programs, please remove them before we clean your computer. That includes torrents.
The nature of such software and the high incidence of malware in files downloaded with them is counter productive to restoring your PC to a healthy state. If you have music files in those programs' folders that you want to save, please move those music files to another directory.

* If this computer belongs to someone else, such as a business, do you have authority to apply the fixes we will use?

* Have you already fixed entries using HijackThis? If so, please restore all the backups and then post another log.

* After we begin working, please print or copy all instructions to Notepad in order to assist you when carrying out procedures.
Please follow all instructions in sequence. Do not, on your own, install/re-install any programs or run any fixes or scanners that you have not been instructed to use because this may cause conflicts with the tools that I am using.

* During the course of our cleanup please do not do any online work or surfing until we have verified that your system is clean.

* We may be using some specialized tools during our fix. Certain embedded files that are part of legitimate programs or specialized fix tools such as process.exe, restart.exe, SmiUpdate.exe, reboot.exe, ws2fix.exe, prcviewer.exe and nircmd.exe may at times be detected by some anti-virus/anti-malware scanners as a "RiskTool", "Hacking tool", "Potentially unwanted tool", or even "malware (virus/trojan)" when that is not the case.
Such programs have legitimate uses in contexts where an authorized user or administrator has knowingly installed it. These detections do not necessarily mean the file is malware or a bad program. It means it has the potential for being misused by others. Anti-virus scanners cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert you or even automatically remove them.

Yes i have complete authority from my boss to fix anything neccesary. Employees are allowed to surf the net during work hours but that might be changing soon. The only thing I did with the registry was attempt to delete 'DisableTaskMgr' to try and fix that problem. Avast is the anti-virus program that the computer is currently using.

Employees are allowed to surf the net during work hours but that might be changing soon. That would be a good move. We'll need to remove McAfee Anti-Virus. Note: You should first attempt to remove your McAfee consumer products using Add/Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel (Programs and Features, in Windows Vista). This is the best method. After uninstalling using Windows Add/Remove Programs, run the McAfee Consumer Removal Tool (MCPR.EXE) to ensure successful removal of all McAfee references. 1. Download the removal tool from: http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe 2. Click Save and save the file to any folder on your computer. 3. Navigate to the folder where the file is saved. 4. Make sure all McAfee windows are closed. 5. Double-click MCPR.EXE to run the removal tool. 6. Restart your computer after receiving the message CleanUp Successful. Your McAfee product will not be fully removed until the system is restarted. If the message Cleanup Unsuccessful is displayed, you can view and save your MCPR log files for analysis by Technical Support. Following that, please post a fresh HijackThis log so we can begin cleaning. This may take a couple of days.
