Trend Micro PC cillin

Hi i just wanted to know if trend micro pc cillin eats up your systems memory like norton. And is it possible to just get a simple virus scanner that works without having all the fancy junk that comes with them.

i have uses norton antivirus for about 3 years then i switched to pc cillen. pc cillen updates about everyday and also there is a turbo scan option which only scans the files that have been changed in some way. pc cillen also scans in half the time than norton

I read the link provided above and I haven't a clue what they mean by the term "performance drag", I can find no definition of it.  I am specifically talking about the AV portion.  Since any good AV program is suspose to be a gatekeeper, then it should be scanning when something is added to your computer, insert a floopy, jump drive or download a file.  Daily scans are illogical.  If a virus slipped through the first scan why would you expect a second scan to find it.  The only time a full scan makes sense is when virus definitions are updated, then something that slipped through before might be caught.  I use NAV my PC have been on since noon April 19th 2005.  According to theTask Manager the total time used by Norton auto-protect has been six seconds, I don't see that as a problem.  Therefore if "performance drag" means the resources used by auto-protect,  6 seconds out of 864,000 seconds (dual processors) doesn't seem to be much of an impact.

Early unpatched versions of Norton and CA Inoculate IT would make the cpu go to 100 percent and effectively kill the system.

Norton is like cancer and eventually their Live update feature will say that they cannot update because they dont understand the version of norton on the system.

Then they wont let you uninstall it because your original CD is not the version as the updated JUNK they LIVE UPDATED you to. Its a Catch 22 and the only option is to FORMAT C: and reinstall.

After 2 or 3 or less of these you will NEVER USE NORTON AGAIN EVER.

Sorry, ain't happening for me.  Never had a problem since I switched from IBM AV to Norton.  Everyone is entitled to an opinion and that is what both you an I are giving.  I would ask one question, if Symantec/Norton is so bad, why are they still in business and why can they raise raise the money they need to buy Veritas?

Hi:  If Norton is so bad, why does Dell offer it when purchasing a new Dell?
