Updates, June 8, 2012: Adobe Flash Player 11.3

Flash Player 11.3.300.257 addresses several security vulnerabilities documented here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb12-14.html

"Adobe recommends users update their software installations by following the instructions below:

•Adobe recommends users of Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.235 and earlier versions for Windows and Macintosh should update to the newest version 11.3.300.257 by downloading it from the Adobe Flash Player Download Center. Windows users of Flash Player 11.2.x who have selected the silent update option will receive the update automatically. Windows users who do not have the silent update option enabled and users of Adobe Flash Player 10.3.x or later for Macintosh can also install the update via the update mechanism within the product when prompted. "

You can  also download the full installer from Adobe  download center:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Be sure to un-check any unwanted add-ons offered.

Direct download links (which should not include any extraneous toolbars nor other programs)

Note:   Effective with Flash 11.3, the installers/UNinstallers now handle both the 32-bit and x64-bit versions [previously, these had been separate].

UNinstaller:  http://download.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash_player.exe

ActiveX version (Internet Explorer):   http://download.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/win/install_flash_player_11_active_x.exe

Plug-in version (other browsers):  http://download.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/licensing/win/install_flash_player_11_plugin.exe

The latest Flash Update has introduced:

  • Protected Mode for Firefox — Flash Player Protected Mode is a new security enhancement designed to limit the impact of attacks launched from malicious SWF files against Adobe Flash Player when running in Firefox 4.0+ on Windows Vista and higher. (This feature is comparable to the Flash Player Protected Mode in Google Chrome browser, Protected Mode in Adobe Reader, and Office 2010 Protected View.)

[For (this, and) other new features, see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1019911 ]

I just carefully re-read my post above, about Flash being protected ("sandboxed") in FF... and took note of the qualifying clause "on Windows Vista and higher"... from which I infer that such protection is NOT offered under XP :-(

EDIT:  CONFIRMED!  per http://blogs.adobe.com/asset/2012/06/inside-flash-player-protected-mode-for-firefox.html  :  "Today, with Windows 8 just around the corner and Windows XP usage rapidly decreasing, it did not make sense for the Flash Player team to make that same engineering investment for Windows XP. Therefore, we’ve focused on making Protected Mode for Firefox available on Windows Vista and later".

My apologies, Hernan, that last aumha link is indeed dead.

Hernan, Maurice also posted here: http://tinyurl.com/botf9tp

Edit: Oops, sorry.  I forgot. Dell prefers shortened links. I'm editing the link to shorten.

Hernan,

I tried going to the aumha link you gave, and it said "The requested topic does not exist"... and I am registered and logged-in.

Corrine is reporting that some people have experienced "Flash Player Protected Mode for Firefox [4.0+, under Windows Vista or newer] is causing Firefox to freeze or crash":  http://securitygarden.blogspot.com/2012/06/flash-player-update-causes-firefox.html

Per her blog, IF you experience this, you can either completely disable Flash, or else, disable its use of Protected Mode:   http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#4468493
