Please use Windows (or Automatic) Updates to obtain an appropriate version for your system.

Notes:   

1)  If you are using:

            32-bit Internet Explorer (IE), you need to download 32-bit Java (Verify browser)

• 64-bit IE, you need to download 64-bit Java (Verify browser)
• Both 32-bit and 64-bit IE, you need to download both 32-bit and 64-bit Java respectively

2) Be sure to UNcheck any toolbars (or other programs) offered, unless you want them.  [In my case, the offer was for Microsoft's BING toolbar.]

3)  This update should automatically remove updates of JRE 6 numbered 10 or higher.

But any older versions of Java have to be uninstalled, separately, before or after the newest installation
