Virus Problems/ No internet

I recently downloaded a program I thought was safe and when I extracted it to winrar my Trend Micro PC-cillin said it contained viruses.  I deleted the programs as instructed, but I am having some serious issues with my computer.  The first problem is that when I try to open internet explorer i get a box that pops up and says
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library.
 Runtime Error!
 Program: C:\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
 R6025
-pure virtual function call

If I click ok or close the box IE shuts down.  The internet page never load and just gets a screen that says Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.  This happens every time I try to connect.

I can't connect to the internet to update any antivirus software but I was able to run the Hijack this
The other problem that happened is that when I started up my computer it said I am running a counterfeit version of windows.  It only happened twice and hasn't since.  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
Results of my hijack this:

Welcome to DCF

That's quite a malware collection you have there. It will take a couple of runs at this to completely remove the infection so please be patient

Re Run Hijackthis
  • At the Main window select " Open the misc tool section"
Then select " Open uninstall manager"
Then " save list" and save it to your desktop

Copy and paste that list as a reply to this thread

You are most welcome :smileyhappy:

First Reboot into Safe Mode
This can be done by
  • Restart your PC, and after it starts, but before you see the Windows Splash screen
Begin tapping the F8 key twice a second untill you reach another menu screen (black background with white menu choices)
Use your arrow keys and select Safe Mode and then Enter

Next Go to Add/Remove Programs (Click Start->>Control Panel->>Add/Remove Programs)
And Uninstall the following programs
  • 888Bar
    advertismen
    BHO
    MediaTickets by OIN
    Network Monitor
    New.net Domains 7.22
    Search Bar
    Web Nexus Network
    WildTangent Web Driver
    Yazzle by OIN

Close Add/Remove Programs ->>Reboot your PC

Next Go here and download Purity Scan Uninstaller

Next Please run the Purity scan Uninstaller
If you have any problems a Tutorial can be found here

Next Download RemAdvertisemen to a convenient place and double click the remadvertisemen.exe.

Once it is running click the " Start Removal" button and wait for the "Done Removal! Please reboot your computer now." message. Once you see that Click ok and then reboot your computer.

Finally Rerun Hijackthis and post a fresh log

The infection is trying to protect itself. Do the Uninstall and the rest of the fix in Normal mode. If you have difficulty in uninstalling any of the programs move on to the next. And in your reply include a list of the programs you were unable to uninstall

Here is an updated HJT log.  The only programs I couldn't remove were the 888Bar and advertismen.  I had a lot of trouble even getting my computer to reboot.

Thanks for the update. Things are improving, you may not be able to see it yet, but you will soon. Hang in there

You may want to print out these instructions for reference

We need to temporarily disable Norton Scriptblocking so it doesn't interfere with our fix
To disable Norton AntiVirus Script Blocking:
  • 1. Start Norton AntiVirus.
If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton SystemWorks or Norton Internet Security, then start that program.
    2. Click Options.
If you see a menu, click Norton AntiVirus.
    3. In the left pane, click Script Blocking.
    4. In the right pane, uncheck Enable Script Blocking (recommended).
    5. Click OK.
First Copy and paste the following into NotePad (Not Wordpad)
  • sc stop cmdService
    sc delete cmdService
Click File ->> Save as ->>type in cmd.bat
  • Under "Save as type" Select " all files" ->>Save it to your Desktop
    Close Notepad
The cmd.bat file should now appear on your Desktop
Double Click that file (It will appear that nothing has happened, but that's o.k.)
1. Go here and Download AVG Anti-Spyware
( 30 day free trial version) Save it to Your Desktop

Double Click AVG Anti-Spyware-setup
(It will create its own folder)
Once the program starts You will be at the Status menu
  • Under "Your computers Security"
Click change status on Resident shield to inactive
Click Update now (next to last update)
    After the update loads
Under Automatic updates Uncheck download and install updates automatically(recommended)
(you can always select maual updates the next day)
At the top toolbar Click Scanner Then the settings tab
  • Under How to act? Set default action for detected malwareTo Quarantine
Under how to scan All boxes should be checked
Under Possibly unwanted software All boxes should be checked
Under reports Select Automatically generate report after every scan
Uncheck Only if threats were found
Under what to scan Scan every file should be highlited
Exit AVG(But do not run it yet)

2. Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop.

  • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
  • Click "Next"
  • In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
  • Click "Browse"
  • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
  • Click on "Local Disk (C: ) or whatever your primary drive is
  • Click "Make New Folder"
  • Type in BFU
  • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".

3. RIGHT-CLICK HERE and choose "Save As" (in IE it's "Save Target As" ) in order to download Alcra PLUS Remover.
Save it in the same folder you made earlier (c:\BFU).

Reboot into Safe Mode
This can be done by
  • Restart your PC, and after it starts, but before you see the Windows Splash screen
Begin tapping the F8 key twice a second untill you reach another menu screen (black background with white menu choices)
Use your arrow keys and select Safe Mode and then Enter

4. Run AVG Anti-Spyware
  • Click scanner
    Select Complete system scan
Once the scan finishes
  • Select Apply all actions (The items found will be quarantined)
Click save report as (Another window will open)
    Save it to your desktop
(By default It will be saved in the AVG folder as)
    C:\Program Files\Grisoft\AVG anti-spyware 7.5\Reports
Exit AVG

5. Then, please go to Start > My Computer and navigate to the C:\BFU folder.

  • Start the Brute Force Uninstaller by doubleclicking BFU.exe
  • Behind the scriptline to execute field click the folder icon user posted imageand select alcanshorty.bfu
  • Press Execute and let the program do it’s job. (You ought to see a progress bar if you did this correctly.)
  • Wait for the complete script execution box to pop up and press OK.
  • Press exit to terminate the BFU program.

Reboot your PC in Normal Mode->>Re run Hijackthis and post a fresh Hijackthis log.
  • Double click the report-scan txt. you saved to your desktop
    It will open in Notepad
Copy and paste that report as a reply to this thread
Your reply should include
  • a fresh hijackthis log
    your report_scan.txt from AVG
  • You may have to post the results in more than one reply

I'm having some trouble with theses steps.  I have no internet access on the infected computer so I can't get the updates for the AVG program.  Could I download the updates on another computer and save it, then put it on the infected computer? Also when I do a scan with that program, it gets almost to the end then terminates and turns off my computer.  Also when I type the message into wordpad and make a desktop file, anytime I double click it says the program is already in use.  I still cannot start it in safe mode, so I was trying this in normal.  Thanks again,  I really do appreciate the time you take to help me

The initial download of AVG Anitspyware should be enough. If you are unable to run it in Safe mode, then run it in normal mode to start with, then after we get your PC back on the net we will update it.

Did you run the batch file I had you make?

    If you are unable to get AVG to run at all then;

Download SDFix and save it to your desktop.

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :

    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
    • Choose your usual account.

    • In Safe Mode, right click the SDFix.zip folder and choose Extract All,
    • Open the extracted folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the script.
    • It will remove the Trojan Services then make some repairs to the registry and prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • Your system will take longer that normal to restart as the fixtool will be running and removing files.
    • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished, then press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Finally open the SDFix folder on your desktop and copy and paste the contents of the results file Report.txt back onto the forum with a new HijackThis log

I still can't start my computer in safe mode at all.  I can't get AVG to run in normal mode fully either.  It will scan around 130,000 files then a box pops up thats says the computer will now shut down and the whole prgram freezes.  It says this was initiated by NTAuthority.  I ran the batch file but haven't had a chance to transfer the file onto a computer with internet access. I have been able to run a custom scan in AVG and scan some of the folders but a lot of them will cause it to shutdown.  The files that have appeared during the custom scans I was able to quarantine, but it had only been a couple. Since I can't start in safe mode, I wasn't able to run the SDfix program either.

Post a fresh Hijackthis log, and we will see what we can delete manually, then get the tools to do the clean up

I ran this HJT  yesterday and then after I ran it I was able to get AVG to scan all the way through, but when I tried to apply all actions it completes some of them but not all and then freezes.  Since then I always am getting Not Responding when I even try to copy a HJT log and I get the same shutdown message as before except I can hardly run anything.
