Viruses, Spyware, who knows......need help

Ok, so I posted over in the malware forum and didn't get any real help. I'm hoping that someone in here can help me.  My desktop is giving us issues and I would like to get it fixed.

Here are the details.

I have a Dell desktop, Dimension 2350....runs widows xp

I have Norton 360 installed on it and since the installation about two days ago it is running really slow.  Having to be restarted several times. It was slow and need restarting before this program was installed, it has just gotten worse.  No error messages come up.  A lot of freezing up though.  The time also is usually off at least twice a week.

Thank you to anyone that can help!

Anyone????

Unfortunately, Gina, Norton 360 has quite a reputation for slowing down PCs, especially older ones, at least in the experience of many posters to this forum. A Google search will confirm this:
http://www.google.com/search?q=Norton+360+slow&rls=com.microsoft:en-ca:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7GGLG

I don't use or recommend Norton products, and can't help you other than to advise you to uninstall it, or to seek help from Norton through their email, chat, or phone support (if you have purchased it). If you decide to uninstall it, instructions and a Norton removal tool, are here:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039

Be advised that this tool will remove all Norton/Symantec programs you have.

There are other paid and free antiviruses, which are far less likely to slow your PC down, which I can recommend:

If you decide on another AV, make sure you don't go back surfing the web without it installed first!

Ok, thank you. I understand.  I just want someone to help me scan the computer for possible viruses or figure out what is wrong with it. It was acting this way long before we installed Norton.

I don't want to uninstall Norton so if there is a way to do all of this and go around the program that would be great.  I had bugbatter help me fix my broken laptop about a wk ago.  It apparently had some malware on it. I posted over there but no one was really able to help me.

I was thinking someone could maybe suggest some scans to do for me to post the logs here so that you can look at them.  I don't know if all this making sense and if I'm being clear, sorry about that.  Also I would need detailed step by step instructions.

Thanks again for any help.

Gina:

In that case I suggest you post another HijackThis log, this time of your desktop PC, to the Malware Removal board. You know the routine.

What happened with your latest post there is that it was answered by a non-expert. When the experts on that board see a post has already been answered, they tend to ignore it, and assume you are already being looked after. You should only trust replies from the individuals listed as trained analysts in this post at the top of that board:
http://en.community.dell.com/forums/t/19251122.aspx

Be aware that the Malware Removal board is also understaffed, and a reply might take some time.
