W32 Beagle Virus Removal

My Dell Dimension PC has been bitten by the W32.Beagle.DA@mm virus.  (I'm writing this from my laptop.)  The PC had Norton SystemWorks 2005 and Norton Internet Security 2005.  A scan of the file I opened, however, did not detect the virus.  I have talked with Symantec folks via email about removing it and their solutions are not working.  The virus renders the anti-virus software useless and the software could not be removed without downloading their SymNet software.  However, there are still Norton entries in the registry that the virus has changed, and I cannot run the regedit program to get to these.  The tool that Symantec has to fix this does not work either.  And I cannot reload the antivirus software to run against the virus.

Has anyone run into this problem and have a solution?

Thanks much for the help.

Have you tried safemode? That's what Norton seems to recommend for the removal of this one.

Also, kaspersky seems to have a removal tool for it as well.

Hope this helps

Yes, I did get into safemode last night, but could not do anything relative to the virus removal.  I earlier removed Norton NIS and NSW 2005 per Symantec instructions but could not reinstall it.  I tried reinstalling it in safemode; but in safemode, neither the CD nor DVD drives were recognized.
I could get into the registry, however, but was not sure what I could do there.  I also tried to get to the virus removal software sites online, but the virus seems to block those as well.  I'll see if I can get to the Kaspersky site.

Thanks for your suggestions.
