w32. blaster. worm. keeps attacking my new dell computer
I'm a first time owner of a computer and I keep getting virus alerts from this worm.The worm is automatically deleted by norton antivirus but my computer shuts down anyway. I've done a full system scan and it came out clean.I've also got automatic live update, virus definitions and all that . How do i check to see if i have a firewall.Also is my computer infected if i keep having a system shutdown? What steps should i take to get rid of this problem?

Most AV suppliers have a page giving instructions on removal of the main virus's, here is AVG (Grisofts) for this one:-

If this does not work, follow the link below to my site, and from the AV section try one of the online scanners - Say housecall.
If not try - again from my site, the malware section.

Hello,
I fixed it with in following steps.
First, press Ctrl + Alt + Delete --> Press "Processes" tab --> Scroll down --> [the virus you mentioned with (.exe) extension.]
Description: This will open "Task manager", to check that whether the mentioned virus is active or not. If you can find the above mentioned virus with (.exe) extension,it means you are still in trouble.
Second, only deleting virus doesn't help so you can look for patch to this worm.
You can look up for information on (www.symantec.com) --> Security responce --> Removal tool (just to confirm it is completely deleted) then Scroll down to "Patch" from Microsoft this might help.
Alert: When you press "Processes" tab in task manager please never click "End Process" button. This might cause problems.
Alternative : If your computer shuts down before you can carry out the above process. Try to use a small "Removable" storage disk to continue.
