Winfixer removal

Need help in removing Winfixer from my computer. When I connect to the internet I get a popup from "Microsoft Internet Explorer"

The following lines are from the WinFixer Bug. 
Unfortunately you can't simply check them and Fix Checked.

The first is rather complex but is pretty certain to succeed and I presume it is safe.  Haven't used it but
usually bleepingcomputer is very good.
 
The second is the standard procedure I have been using and is a bit simpler.  It has worked about 10 times with no problems but 1 user reported
he had to reload windows after use, another had some odd problems and one said it didn't do anything.

The text file with it says you have to have internet access when you run it.  It might work better in Safe Mode with Networking.
 
 
In either case you will need to adjust the procedure for your particular infection.  By that I mean you will need to note the lines I gave you above and substitute them for the lines he tells you to check.
 
XP only:
Make sure before you do anything that your System Restore is working and that you have a recent Restore Point. 
That way if something goes wrong you have a chance to recover.

Dan,

Trying your suggestion #2. Atribuve.org posted a new version of VundoFix today. After activating the program and pressing ENTER, it asks for me to 'enter the filepath as instructed by the forum..'.

What filepath should be used?

OK. I tracked  it down.  The next step is almost the same as the first but with the file name spelled backwards and * instead of dll.
 
C:\WINDOWS\system32\prqss.*
That should be the last step.

After entering that, it requests the next filepath. Have no idea how many steps there are or will be.

Ron,

Before getting this last reply, I repeated the first step or file path you gave me. This time it was accepted  and it ran. Ran without even giving me a chance to do anything else. Scary. It 'said' it called up HiJackThis and without stopping or asking proceeded to eliminate files. After I was sure it was through, I opened HJT and ran 'system scan only' and found the first line item (02) with the ssqpp.dll component was gone. The second line item (020) was there but in brackets with a note that the file could not be found.

I rebooted the system and did not get the popup etc. Looks like it is gone. I hope. I hope. Thank you very much.

It was difficult typing this entry with my fingers crossed.

Glad it worked out.  Sorry they changed the procedure from one day to the next but this is a cutting edge bug.  Unlike viruses which are created by amateurs who write viruses in their spare time this adware/spyware stuff is written by highly paid professionals and some of them are very good.
 
Do a final HijackThis log and post it as a reply.  Let's make sure I didn't miss some other bug.

Make sure you have System Restore running (toggle it off and On today to get rid of any bad stuff it may have retained) and then you can just go back to an earlier time if you hit a bad site.  One way to make this more obvious is to check everything in your current HijackThis and Add to Ignore List then set up Hijackthis to run at boot and to show you if it finds anything new.
