Unpack to your desktop and run it. If you have green print at the top then just press Restore Original Hosts then OK.
IF you have red print then press make Hosts Writeable first.
Where it says Full Path of File to Delete you need to type or copy (Hightlight and Ctrl + c)
and Paste (move to the killbox and place the cursor in the box and Ctrl + V):
C:\Program Files\Starware
Then check the Delete on Reboot and DELTREE boxes then the red button. Agree you want to remove the file but do not let it reboot yet.
Repeat for:
C:\Documents and Settings\Sandra Cassou\Application Data\Starware
let it reboot after the last one. If it says it can't find one then go on to the next one. IF it complains about an external process then wait until you get into Safe Mode and try again.
Restart and Boot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you see the PC
maker's logo.
Keep tapping until it tells you it is going to Safe Mode or you see the Safe
Mode menu. Select the top option.
If you just get a black screen you can Ctrl + Alt + Del and select Task Manager then Files, New Task , Then Type:
C:\Documents and Settings\Sandra Cassou\Desktop\HijackThis.exe, OK to run HijackThis.
Run HijackThis and just do a Scan only. Check then Fix Checked the following:
the dumb winfixer box still pops up...why wont it die??!?!?!?!?!

The log looks clean now. Don't see anything that would cause winfixer popups. Does it happen even when not on line? HijackThis says you are not uptodate on your windows and IE patches. It might be exploiting a security hole when you are on line so it would be good to check that the firewall is running (doesn't look like it is) or better yet install the free version of ZoneAlarm's firewall.

Use DELL televizors as the subject so I will know where it came from. If you decide to post it you can break it up into two posts but please make sure the formatting does not get lost.
File SaveAs and save it to C:\ as "fixvundo.reg" - do not forget the quotes or it will save it with an invisible .txt extension.
Now boot into Safe Mode: Shutdown and reboot into Safe Mode by tapping the F8 key when you see the PC
maker's logo. Keep tapping until it tells you it is going to Safe Mode or you see the Safe
Mode menu. Select the top option. IF you don't see the menu but just a single option to boot into XP Home then press F8 one more time.
If it hangs at a black screen after selecting from the menu, press Ctrl + Alt + Del and select Task manager.
Now either Start, Run, c:\procexp.exe, OK
or if in Task Manager, File, New Task(run), C:\procexp.exe, OK.
to start Process Explorer.
In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.
Once you see this screen click on each instance of the ddcya or aycdd (with any extension - .dll, bak, .ini) and click on the kill button. After you have killed all of the instances of the DLL under winlogon click on the OK button.
3. Now double-click on
explorer.exe, select the
Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of the ddcya or aycdd (with any extension - .dll, bak, .ini) and click on the
kill button. After you have killed all of the instances of the DLL under explorer.exe
This should have stopped the malware for now.
Run fixvundo.reg by:either Start, Run, c:\fixvundo.reg, OK
or if in Task Manager, File, New Task(run), C:\fixvundo.reg , OK.
Allow it to merge. This removes the registry entries.
Run killbox by:either Start, Run, c:\killbox.exe, OK
or if in Task Manager, File, New Task(run), C:\killbox.exe, OK.
Put in:
C:\WINDOWS\System32\ddcya.dll
check Delete on Reboot and then press the red button, agree you want to delete the file and let it reboot. This should remove the file.
When it reboots, run silent runners again and send me the log. You can tell from the log if we got it. These two lines should be gone:
Killbox stores copies of the files it delete in a folder C:\!submit. If you are able to delete the file with Killbox and the file appears in that folder could you zip it up (password protect it if you have that option) or if not zip then just as is and send it to me as an attachment? I have a friend with Microsoft's AntiSpy team and they would love to have a copy of it. Use DELL Winfixer as the subject.
before i do these processes....i cannot do these in safe mode,i have tried...but it doesnt work.i go into safe mode,log in...then i get a black screen.that is all.
when i originally had ran a scan of the computer i had found two or three adware things,and then there was one worm...but it wouldnt delete or fix,it said that it was write protected.i ran another scan and it had disappeared.
the computer runs decent now,but every so often that dumb winfixer window pops up.i will wait for your reply on the computers inability to run in safe mode before i go on.
You can't get into full Safe Mode because Winfixer won't let you but you can go to task manager from the Safe Mode black Screen or so several people have told me. If you check my previous post you will see I give directions for running things from Task Manager. However, if you still can't get it to work that way then try it from regular mode.

The log looks clean now. Don't see anything that would cause winfixer popups. Does it happen even when not on line? HijackThis says you are not uptodate on your windows and IE patches. It might be exploiting a security hole when you are on line so it would be good to check that the firewall is running (doesn't look like it is) or better yet install the free version of ZoneAlarm's firewall.

It could be that this is a new version that has a stealth mode or uses a start method not usually checked in HijackThis.

Mode menu. Select the top option. IF you don't see the menu but just a single option to boot into XP Home then press F8 one more time.

before i do these processes....i cannot do these in safe mode,i have tried...but it doesnt work.i go into safe mode,log in...then i get a black screen.that is all.
when i originally had ran a scan of the computer i had found two or three adware things,and then there was one worm...but it wouldnt delete or fix,it said that it was write protected.i ran another scan and it had disappeared.
the computer runs decent now,but every so often that dumb winfixer window pops up.i will wait for your reply on the computers inability to run in safe mode before i go on.
