WININET.dll missing Spybot used last night
Used spybot last night - now can't open anything. Login, desktop blank., If I open Task Manager, I can browse to open programs but keep getting error message that it can't start, WININET.DLL is missing. All docs/files are empty. Help needed - I don't want to lose everything and don't know where to start.

It's unusual for Spybot S&D to cause any problems. Did you download any programs about the same time you ran Spybot?
Lets try to boot into safe mode
1. Boot (start) computer
2. Before you see the windows logo tap the F8 key
3. And see if you can get to the menu screen which should come up
please reply

OK - Windows seems to load, then when I log into my account, I get an error message" Explorer.exe - unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Click ok, and desktop is blank. Open Task Manager, go to options, create new task, browse, and the folder in my c: drive, programs, windows, is filled with $MS131Uninstall_KB...files. What next?

I do have my operating disk that came with the computer, but I really am hoping not to wipe out all my files if I reinstall windows. I've posted on the other site per your suggestion. Thanks for all your help.
