Zone Alarm Crashes Windows XP

Question

I just got a version of Zone Alarm from my isp. The problem is that every time that the firewall is enabled, it crashes windows xp at boot. Anyone got any ideas on how to fix? I've already uninstalled/installed two times. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I experienced problems with ZA when I tried to used it also.
I just dumped that program and downloaded Sygate rather than try and figure out what the heck it's problem was.
I am much happier with Sygate.

Drkangel, What's the error message that's being displayed on bootup? Have you tried uninstalling, then reinstalling it? Mike.

It gives a BSOD right when you get to the desktop. i've tried disabling it and enabling again when it's already booted, it still causes the BSOD. I'm at work so i can't post the message right now, i'll post the message from the even viewer later today. I've done the reinstall\uninstall\reinstall routine already. it still doesn't clear it up. I've also tried it with 2 different versions of the file, one from roadrunner and the other from computer associates. Message Edited by Drkangel80 on 01-05-2005 02:11 PM

There is a problem with the ZA firewall in versions 7. The program srescan.sys loads at the initial boot and causes the problem. Re-booting several times usually got through, but had to clear the NVRAM several times to get a good boot. No official fix from ZA yet. Google for the problem to find several methods of removing the program. It's unnecessary for basic firewall perfromance, but used for e-mail scanning. I ended up deleting the firewall, as it was also slowing me down too much.

I've gotten a STOP ERROR since installing version 7. The error reads something like this:   File: srescan.sys Address: F7336355 base at F7330000, DateStamp 459E1537   Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area   STOP 0X00000050 0XF000A902, 0X00000000, 0XF7336355, 0X00000000     It said something about a device driver, hardware, or software. I last had the error I guess Sunday or Monday. I haven't had any problems since. Today is Thursday 2/22/07. Of course, ZA7 has done some updates since Sunday/Monday.

Yes, srescan.exe is the problem. I don't know if ZA will announce when they have this fixed. Problem supposedly is mostly with System Mechanic.

Hmm...I don't have System Mechanic, so...I don't know.
