ZoneAlarm (free) Firewall
I use ZoneAlarm free firewall and every once in a while, I click the Update button on its toolbar to check for updates. Haven't had any updates offered to me for ~4-5 months so I went directly to their website today and found that my version is out-of-date.
I had 101.065.000 but the latest version offered on their site is 101.101.000. So if you use ZA (free), it might be a good idea to manually check that you have the latest version and not rely on their automated update distribution service to offer timely updates.

Generally speaking, unless, you are having a problem with a firewall or unless there is a patch to fix some kind of vulnerability, or compatibility issue, keeping a FW updated is not as important as keeping an antivirus updated. As long as it has been working error free, a firewall is a firewall.
