Expanding Regular Volume in VMAX

I am familiar with the process of expanding striped meta luns, concatenated meta luns, and non-metaluns, so I am quite familiar with the process; however, I have not expanded a regular non TDEV LUN yet.

I have a request to expand a Windows OS boot disk (we boot from VMAX for physical boxes) and I'm not sure how to proceed with this.

The volume is a 55GB regular (not TDEV) RAID 5 (3+2) volume and I would like to expand by another say, 45GB.

Also, can it be done online?

Anyone have experience with this?

Thank you in advance!

Yes, this can be done online. Your easiest route will be to form a concat. meta using the existing device and another 55GB device that is the same size and RAID type as the original device. You can convert this to a striped meta later if you need the performance that striped would offer.

The details of these procedures are in the "EMC™ Solutions Enabler Array Controls and Management Version 8.3" PDF. Ch 22 "Manage Configuration Changes", section "Metadevice management".
