VMAX 3 Virtual Ports

I have a couple of questions regarding VMAX 3 virtual ports.

1.- What happens when the director fails? Do virtual ports auto assign to new director (failover?) or do I have to mannually link the virtual ports to a new director port?

2.- How can I take advantage on having the ability to create many virtual ports assigned to one physical port? ie. Can I have a virtual port for Open Replicator independent from another virtual port with storage provisioning independently working over the same physical port?
