VMware - VMAX VAAI and ATS-Only
When you create a LUN with VAAI turned on a host, during the
datastore format it will place the ATS-Only flag as well as public on the ESXi
host and the lun will mount to all hosts with this flag, including hosts that
do not have VAAI enabled.
If a host did not have VAAI enabled and a datastore is
created, it will not set this flag , however mount the datastore with
public (SCSI-2) to all hosts in the cluster, with or without VAAI enabled.
The leaves LUNS in a mixed state when VAAI is enabled , then
disabled on the hosts and depending when the LUN is created. For example
customer has decided to enable VAAI after has been disabled , then new LUNS are
created or VAAI disabled after LUN have been created and new ones created.
The question is , when customers are running in this mix LUN
state, public (SCSI-2) and public ATS-Only flags, should the LUNS be changed
(manual process) to enabled the flag, which has been stated by VMWare is to be
done off line, or create new datastores and remove old datastores depended on
when VAAI was enabled ?
