Adding unused DAE to vnx5300

I have an unused DAE for a 5300. 15 600gb sas 15k drives.

Will powering it on when connected to the other running production shelves cause any interruptions?

Thanks for you help

is current VNX5300 under warranty ?  If yes you might want to talk to your local team before you breach your support contract.

Warranty issues aside, adding a new DAE is a non-disruptive activity.

First ensure that you have sufficient capacity on the array to take the addition, as the 5300 can take a maximum of 120 drives.

To add the DAE, download the latest USM (Unisphere Service Manager)

Click the "Hardware" tab then "Hardware Installation"  then "Install Disk Array Enclosure" and follow the instructions.

Thanks for the reply!

That was a nice piece of info. We in fact do have 150 drives in the 5300. We do have a 5400 that is below the 250 limit. Are DAE’s able to be added to any vnx or are the bus and firmware different DAES are model specific?

Thanks again

That's moving the DAE from VNX to VNX2 which I have never done (have done VNX - VNX many times).

I'd be engaging your local support resource (or log an SR) to get details, and may mean getting an RPQ.

Thanks again for the reply. Once again great advice. The DAE is not compatible with the 5400. I appreciate you taking the time to answer.

In general the first thing to do is check is the part number and firmware version on the disk and DAE compatability Matrix available at support.emc.com
